If so, Department 2214 is seeking a self-directed, customer and partner-focused individual with strong interpersonal, teamwork, leadership, and analytical skills to serve as an Electrical Engineer for the Mk21 AFA (Arming and Fuzing Assembly) Product Realization Team (PRT).
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Support resolution of technical and programmatic challenges related to design, development, qualification, and production in a collaborative manner across multiple internal and external organizations.
- Demonstrate technical acumen by identifying and managing technical risks.
- Analyze system performance against requirements.
- Assess, plan, and report progress relative to a program plan.
- Collaborate with engineers, technologists, and technicians across Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) organizations to solve technical challenges.
- Update design definitions and documentation.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Some travel may be required for this position.
Salary Range$117,500 - $235,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- An active DOE Q-level security clearance or an equivalent active clearance (e.g., DoD Top Secret).
Qualifications We DesireThe ideal R&D Electrical Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers.
- Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
- Demonstrated self-motivated effectiveness in an environment with dynamic conditions, competing priorities, and firm deadlines.
- Understanding of nuclear weapon design.
- Experience in test equipment engineering.
- Experience with data analysis and failure analysis.
- Experience with the following software and/or programming languages: MATLAB, LabVIEW, TestStand, VB.NET, and Verilog.
- Experience writing Engineering Authorizations.
- Experience in ND Systems organization(s).
- Previous work with the Kansas City National Security Campus.
- Experience with DoD or DOE programs.
About Our TeamDepartment 2214 (Mk21 AFA Product Realization) provides systems engineering and production engineering support for the Mk21 Fuze program. The department is directly responsible for the design, development, qualification, and production support of the Arming and Fuzing Assembly (AFA). Currently, our focus is centered on production support with our KCNSC partners. We also work alongside our Fuze counterparts at SNL California, who serve as the Systems Integrator and program leadership.
