Job Announcement
The City of Chandler Police Department, Media Relations Unit, is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Civilian Public Information Officer. This is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits. The anticipated work schedule is Tuesday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, with after hours on-call duties assigned on a rotational basis.
Who we are looking for

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for a creative and self-driven individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment; and is competently able to do the following when assigned to the Chandler Police Department:
  • Must be able to accurately disseminate information to the public in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with important stakeholders across the Police Department and City of Chandler.
  • Must be able to create engaging social media content to include photos, videos and graphics, and other materials.
  • Must be a proficient storyteller who can deliver complex information to internal and external audiences.
  • Must be willing to monitor requests from the media and respond in a timely manner to calls regarding critical incidents while assigned to an on-call rotation.
  • Must be able to operate mirrorless camera systems, stabilizers, microphones, lighting kits and other production equipment.
  • Must be proficient in organizing opportunities for media to cover aspects of the Department's Operations.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willing to attend department events to capture digital media posts on the department's social media platforms.
  • Must assist in managing the department's digital content calendar and contribute to overall content strategy.
  • Will participate in a broad range of event production, staging and technical support services.
  • Will work nights and weekends on occasion.
  • Ensure visual content aligns with department brand, tone and messaging goals.
  • Collaborate with police and city leadership to plan and execute projects.

Minimum qualifications
  • Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Mass Communications, Digital Media or a related field; and/or
  • Must possess at least 3-years of experience in marketing or communications with an emphasis on social media; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Arizona driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Supervision

Work is performed under the supervision of a Media Manager. This position does not supervise others.
