Civil Superintendent

Location: Kitimat, BC
Rotation: 14 Days On / 7 Days Off
Position Type: Site-Based, Full-Time Project Based

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivatedCivil Superintendent to join our project team in Kitimat, BC. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Civil Superintendent will be responsible for leading and coordinating civil construction activities, supervising field personnel, ensuring safe work execution, maintaining strong client relationships, and supporting the successful delivery of project objectives.

This role requires a highly organized leader who can effectively manage crews, collaborate with stakeholders, and maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and workforce development.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Workforce Management
  • Lead daily pre-shift and post-shift meetings with day and night shift Foremen.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct two Toolbox Meetings per day.
  • Direct, allocate, and coordinate work assignments among Foremen and field personnel.
  • Manage manpower scheduling, workforce forecasting, training, and performance management.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, mentoring, and workforce development opportunities.
  • Support worker competency development through progressive training programs.
  • Coordinate employee relations matters with HR and applicable unions, including conflict resolution and progressive discipline processes.

Client & Stakeholder Relations
  • Maintain positive working relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Attend work scope, planning, and progress meetings.
  • Provide manpower forecasts, production updates, and progress reports.
  • Address operational issues, schedule impacts, safety concerns, and seasonal work planning requirements.
  • Collaborate and coordinate activities with other contractors working on site.
  • Represent the company professionally and with integrity in all business dealings.

Project Execution & Operations
  • Assist Project Management and Project Coordinators in meeting contractual obligations and project milestones.
  • Organize and manage project materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and resources.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair activities for company equipment and vehicle assets.
  • Attend and lead project progress meetings, Area Leadership Team (ALT) meetings, and Incident & Injury-Free (IIF) action team meetings.
  • Support all aspects of project planning and execution as assigned by the Project Manager.

Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all work activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company and client safety programs, including:
    • PPE requirements
    • Hazard Assessments
    • Safe Work Procedures (SWPs)
    • Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
    • Group Risk Assessments
    • Permit-to-Work systems
    • Environmental controls
  • Coordinate weekly safety meeting topics with the HSE team.
  • Assist HSE personnel with incident investigations, reporting, corrective actions, and leading indicators.
  • Review, approve, and sign off on JHAs, SWPs, competencies, and safety documentation.
  • Conduct and/or direct regular site audits, inspections, and safety walks (minimum five audits per week).
  • Support ongoing safety improvement initiatives and workforce engagement programs.


Qualifications
  • Minimum 5-7 years of civil construction experience, with progressively increasing supervisory responsibility.
  • Previous experience as a Superintendent or Senior Foreman on large industrial, infrastructure, or heavy civil projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction planning, scheduling, and workforce management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements and best practices.
  • Experience working in unionized environments is considered an asset.
  • Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with clients, contractors, project teams, and workforce personnel.
  • Proficient with project reporting, forecasting, and documentation requirements.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to work in a remote industrial construction environment.
