Full Job Description
Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Civil Superintendent is responsible for providing on-site leadership, coordination, and supervision of all civil construction activities to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with design specifications and quality standards. This role serves as a key liaison between field operations, project management, subcontractors, and clients; driving performance, maintaining schedule integrity, and upholding the highest levels of safety and workmanship. The Civil Superintendent plays a critical role in ensuring project success from initial mobilization through final completion of solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) EPC projects.

This position is expected to travel up to 100%.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, oversee, and provide general supervision of all civil construction activities to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Lead and mentor Assistant Superintendents, Supervisors, internal crews, and subcontractors, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance across all site operations.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor resources to optimize productivity, maintain quality, and ensure cost-effective execution.
  • Enforce compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company safety policies, implementing proactive measures to maintain a zero-incident work environment.
  • Monitor daily progress and ensure adherence to project timelines, proactively identifying and resolving potential schedule conflicts or field issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of site activities, including daily reports, inspections, and progress tracking to support project documentation and reporting.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for communication between field operations, project management, subcontractors, and clients, providing regular updates on progress, challenges, and milestones.
  • Supports the Project and Construction Manager in making critical decisions on budgetary, schedule, or subcontractor related issues.
  • Participates in the upfront planning of the project and helps develop and ensure adherence to the project schedule including construction, testing, and commissioning with the project team.
  • Ensure that all work meets project specifications and quality requirements through ongoing inspection, verification, and coordination with engineering and quality control teams.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineering teams to develop comprehensive Civil quality and installation plans.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who bring:

  • Five or more years of experience in similar functions.
  • Experience in similar roles within the renewable energy sector (photovoltaic plants, solar thermal plants, or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and inspection criteria.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Utility-scale PV and/or BESS construction experience preferred. Experience on projects exceeding 30 MW is strongly preferred.
  • Availability to move and live in the location of the project.


Environmental Conditions:

  • Predominantly outdoor climate.
  • Exposure to:
  • Hot or cold weather
  • Humidity, rain, or other weather conditions
  • Loud noises caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.
  • Potential exposure to chemical substances


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk long distances on active construction sites.
  • Ability to climb ladders and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and safely access all areas of a construction site.

Requirements and Conditions of Employment

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to company insurance requirements.
  • Must successfully complete any required motor vehicle record (MVR) review, background screening, and employment verification processes, consistent with applicable laws.
  • Must comply with EMC Renewables Drug-Free Workplace Policy and any testing requirements permitted by law.
  • Must be able to meet customer, project site, and regulatory access requirements as applicable to the position.
