The Superintendent Civil is responsible for managing the employees who make up the civil construction crews. This position is in charge of ensuring everything involving civil work at the job site is going to plan and within budget. This position is classified as 7safety-sensitive.8
Essential Functions
- Supervises, inspects, and approves day-to-day operations of civil construction projects
- Completes all required on-site paperwork
- Coordinates civil construction projects with management, subcontractors, and employees
- Schedules, manages, and assists subcontractors
- Sets expectations with subcontractors and holds them accountable for results
- Provides direct accountability for job safety reporting and documentation
- Completes reports and documentation required or requested by management
- Inspects and secures jobsite to prevent damage and theft
- Ensures a safe work environment by following and enforcing safety standards and protocols
- Establishes processes and procedures to carry out work and keep the project on schedule
- Ability to study, understand, direct, and perform management responsibilities based on construction drawings
- Prepares and documents job meetings, safety meetings, reports, daily pictures, and logs
- Be willing to physically provide labor as needed
- Willing to accomplish related tasks that may be required at any given time to get the job done
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a relevant construction-related discipline, such as construction management or engineering
- A minimum of 7 years of prior commercial project construction superintendent experience
- A valid drivers license with an acceptable MVR
- Possess an OSHA 30-Hour certification and a thorough knowledge of OSHA safety requirements
- An understanding of construction equipment, including safe operating practices and maintenance
- Ability to read blueprints, CAD drawings, layouts, and other documents. Ensure that all scopes are completed correctly.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products (specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel and/or work weekends and nights if needed
- Anticipate potential problems and quickly identify issues and make educated decisions as required to maintain schedule
- Communicate with clients and provide them with project details
- Manage schedule, including two-week lookaheads
Working Conditions
- Location This project is located in Farmington, New Mexico. Subsequent projects may be nationally based.
- Travel This role will be expected to travel to project locations, sometimes nationally
- Construction site environment physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb.a0 May be exposed to high noise levels.
