Full Job Description
Position Location:

This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Position Summary:

N3B is currently seeking a Professional Civil / Structural Engineers 3/4 to support the design team as a lead design engineer on projects. The candidate will be responsible for developing plans and specifications following applicable standards. The candidate shall have an excellent understanding of the design process and ability to mentor other engineers. Assignments typically include a combination of on-site and office duties for various projects (e.g. highway/ transportation, structural, drainage, site development, and other public works improvements). Excellent communication and organizational skills are required as well as the ability to multi-task and work independently and in a team. Duties will also include communication with and coordination of other engineering disciplines, other company divisions, and consultants, as needed, to complete projects.

The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer, a self-starter who can multitask and pay close attention to detail. We are looking for someone with a detailed understanding of roadway, grading, drainage, structural, and utility design.

While working to achieve N3B objectives, the successful candidate will: ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner through maintaining required safety, security, and operational training. Making safety, security and quality an integral part of every task including taking the necessary steps to pause or stop work as necessary to ensure the safety and security personnel and the job site.

Responsibilities/ Duties (may include, but are not limited to):
  • Perform field investigations and assessments. Perform standard computations or analysis. Prepare drawings and visual aids.
  • Perform occasional drafting and/or figure development using technical software as required.
  • Apply prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established criteria to perform assigned tasks.
  • Perform the design of various civil/ structural engineering projects, and checks design work of staff and design engineers assigned to projects under their control.
  • Mentors and trains junior engineering staff.
  • Preparation or modification of various types of reports, specifications, plans, forms, policies and procedures. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to understand and apply industry codes and standards.
  • Experience with Autodesk design platforms, preferably Civil3D.

Education and Experience Required:

Level 2: Bachelors in Science degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering, or related fields from an ABET-accredited college or university. A three (3) years in responsible charge of civil/structure engineering work and relevant experience, preferably in construction plan production, design calculations, and technical writing.

Level 3: Bachelors' of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related fields from an ABET-accredited college or university. A five (5) years in responsible charge of civil and/or structural engineering and relevant experience, preferably in construction plan production, design calculations, and technical writing. Have at least a 3.0 GPA, and have shown a commitment to academic focus, leadership and delivering high quality solutions and products.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Normally assigned to perform work in an office environment with occasional field work. Electrical hazards and other minor potential hazards normally found in an office environment are anticipated. Minor hazards normally found in a northern New Mexico field data collection environment are anticipated. Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline. Office and field work environment.

While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, the Civil/ Structural Engineer 3/4 will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This role will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security. Ability to obtain an L level Department of Energy security clearance.
