Position SummaryK&K is seeking an experienced
ACS Field Engineer to support architectural, civil, and structural construction projects within a large automotive manufacturing facility in San Antonio, TX.
This is a hands-on, field-focused engineering position responsible for supporting
civil and structural installations, contractor coordination, field inspections, design reviews, commissioning, and construction administration.
The ideal candidate combines a strong
architectural, civil, or structural engineering background with practical construction management experience and is comfortable working directly with contractors, equipment vendors, project managers, and manufacturing teams in an active industrial environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesCivil & Structural Field Engineering- Facilitate architectural, civil, and structural construction installations.
- Support foundations, structural steel erection, building systems, and related construction activities.
- Conduct continuous field inspections and monitor construction progress.
- Inspect civil and structural building systems for compliance with project specifications, quality requirements, and applicable codes.
- Oversee civil and structural contractors to ensure adherence to project requirements, schedules, and milestone targets.
- Identify field issues and coordinate solutions with contractors, engineering teams, and project management.
Engineering & Design Review- Review architectural, civil, and structural engineering drawings and specifications.
- Review contractor-generated RFIs and provide technical input.
- Review product and equipment submittals and shop drawings.
- Support development and improvement of project technical specifications and engineering standards.
- Provide subject matter expertise related to civil, structural, and architectural systems.
Construction & Contractor Coordination- Coordinate activities between building contractors, equipment vendors, facilities teams, and manufacturing groups.
- Support equipment factory testing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and final handover.
- Coordinate weekend and plant-shutdown construction activities.
- Support planned utility outages and construction sequencing.
- Participate in weekly contractor and project coordination meetings.
- Monitor contractor performance, construction quality, and schedule compliance.
Project Management Support- Support construction administration activities involving schedule, quality, and project coordination.
- Track construction progress against established project milestones.
- Prepare field engineering status reports for Project Managers.
- Communicate project risks, field conditions, construction progress, and schedule concerns.
- Manage multiple project priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
Safety & Code Compliance- Promote safe work practices throughout construction activities.
- Ensure field activities comply with applicable OSHA requirements and project safety standards.
- Apply knowledge of safety practices including:
- Lockout/Tagout
- Electrical safe work practices
- Control of hazardous energy
- Arc-flash safety
- Support compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards.
Required Qualifications- 5-10 years of relevant engineering/construction experience.
- 5+ years of architectural, civil, and/or structural design experience.
- 2+ years of construction management experience.
- Experience developing design criteria for architectural, civil, and structural systems.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs.
- Strong understanding of civil and structural construction methods.
- Experience coordinating contractors and construction activities in the field.
- Strong organizational, communication, and schedule-management skills.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively in both written and verbal formats.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established project deadlines.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related discipline.
Automotive / Industrial ExperienceCandidates should have experience supporting
automotive or similar industrial manufacturing facilities, preferably involving:
- Vehicle manufacturing
- Engine manufacturing
- Transmission manufacturing
- Powertrain facilities
- High-volume industrial manufacturing
Codes & StandardsStrong working knowledge of applicable building codes and professional industry standards is desired, including:
- IBC
- NEC
- NESC
- NFPA
- ASME
- AWS
- ASHRAE
- AMCA
- ARI
- FM standards
Software SkillsProficiency with:
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Project
Additional experience with the following is preferred:
Work Requirements- Approximately 20% overtime.
- Must be available to support occasional weekend and plant-shutdown work.
- Approximately 30% travel.
- Ability to work onsite and regularly inspect active construction areas.
Ideal CandidateThe strongest candidate will be a
Civil/Structural Field Engineer or Construction Engineer who has both design and field experience.
This person should be comfortable reviewing structural drawings in the office one moment and walking an active construction site the next-working directly with contractors on
foundations, structural steel, building systems, installation quality, RFIs, schedule issues, safety, and commissioning.
Automotive manufacturing construction experience will be highly valuable for this position.
