About the role:
Supervise daily activities of underground utility crews (operators, pipelayers, laborers)
Plan, organize, and execute work related to watermain, sanitary, storm, and service installations
Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility locates
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, company policies, and site-specific safety plans
Coordinate with project management, inspectors, engineers, and utility authorities
Ensure proper shoring, trench safety, dewatering, and excavation practices
Manage productivity, manpower, equipment, and materials on site
Conduct daily toolbox talks and enforce safe work practices
Monitor quality control and ensure installations meet municipal and project standards
Complete daily reports, time tracking, and as-built documentation
Identify and resolve site issues, conflicts, and constructability challenges
Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members
Maintain clean, organized, and efficient work areas
Other duties as assigned by the Project Manager or Superintendent
About you:
5+ years of experience in civil underground utility construction
Proven experience in a Foreman or lead hand role
Strong knowledge of underground utility installation methods and materials
Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings
Knowledge of trench safety, shoring systems, and excavation regulations
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet project schedules
Valid driver’s license
First Aid, WHMIS, and relevant safety certifications (asset)
Work Environment
Outdoor construction sites in varying weather conditions
Physically demanding work environment
May require extended hours to meet project deadlines
Salary Range:
$40-55/hour
