Full Job Description
We have an opportunity for an Environmental Project Manager to join our rapidly growing Colorado team. The primary duties of this position include all aspects of engineering, project management, project pursuits, and client relationship management for projects primarily focused on the municipal solid waste (MSW), coal combustion residual (CCR), industrial waste, and remediation industries, with an emphasis on system planning, engineering analysis, cost estimating, design, construction management, pollution control systems, and permitting/regulatory compliance. Specific duties will include business development, proposal development, planning, design, permitting, and construction administration of waste systems, storm water controls, groundwater monitoring and remediation networks, leachate management systems, landfill gas collection and control systems, and site layout/infrastructure elements (utilities, roads, support buildings, soil borrow areas, etc.).

The Environmental Project Manager will function as a lead project designer, engineer of record, and project manager on mid-size to large projects, and is expected to demonstrate a history of progressive experience effectively leading similar scale projects. This person will be responsible for assisting team leadership in sustaining and growing client relationships and organizing and contributing to overall business development opportunities. A core component of this will be identifying upcoming project opportunities and participating in the project pursuit and proposal development, including developing scopes of work and budgets.

Primary Responsibilities

The primary duties of the Environmental Project Manager are to conduct, supervise or direct a multitude of waste and remediation engineering projects. In this role, we'll count on you to:

  • Plan, direct and monitor all aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, typically involving a large project staff.
  • Establish client relations and be involved in business development, marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project development to complete documents on schedule.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures.
  • Work on diverse remedial engineering projects that with a wide range of contaminants (VOCs/SVOCs/metals/PCBs/ NAPL) in all types of media (soil/groundwater/sediment/bedrock/abandoned mines, etc.) utilizing innovative remedial technologies (P&T/removal/containment/dredging/ISS/chemical oxidation/bioremediation/capping).
  • Lead team of staff engineers in preparation of design deliverables including engineering design reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and construction schedules with support from HDR's national practice leads.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and regulatory agencies to resolve technical issues and negotiate remedial actions.
  • Will also serve as a consultant and supervisor of waste and remedial construction management projects as needed.
  • Work independently on technical tasks involving data analysis, interpreting results, and preparing technical reports, plans and specifications.
  • Delegate and supervise junior engineers on waste and remediation design components and staff of professionals and technicians on remedial investigations.
  • Train and mentor personnel as established by strategic plans.


Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience required.
  • MSW/CCR facility highly preferred.
  • Proven leadership and Project Management skills required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of client relationship management and evidence of experience interacting directly with clients higher preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Must be detail-oriented and a team player with great communication, technical writing, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in client marketing and proposal development.
  • Demonstrated experience in project development and execution in the Public and Private sectors.
  • Experience mentoring and supervising junior engineers.
  • Preference given to local candidates
