Posting Open: 07/28/2026 Posting Close: 08/06/2026 at 11:59 PM EST Salary: Competitive Job Summary - Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of transmission line routing work for a total project of moderate scope.
- Performs work which involves conventional transmission line routing practices but may include a variety of complex line routing considerations such as conflicting design requirements, environmental consideration, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
- As a fully competent engineer in all conventional experience aspects of transmission line routing, plans and conducts work requiring judgment, independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard design and routing techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Requires sufficient professional experience to ensure competence as a fully trained worker.
Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise or coordinate the work of multidiscipline engineers, design technicians, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.
Supervision Received Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and higher level engineer's approval on proposed plans for projects.
Skills and Proficiencies ( May be job or organization specific)
- Thorough knowledge of engineering principles applicable to transmission line routing (structure types, spans, structure locations), survey, and design, and substation location.
- TVA's policies and procedures on environmental protection as defined in Code IX as well as Federal, state, and local environmental/permit requirements.
- Proficient in the implementation of TVA's transmission line siting process to include: assessment of alternative route locations, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements, and various considerations to reach and defend a project decision.
- TVA's land survey and procurement practices and policies, and property ownership record systems.
- Defend the line location decision in the presence of property owners, public officials, interest groups, regulators, and/or in a court of law if necessary.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)
Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements Bachelor's Degree in civil or environmental engineering or comparable related engineering discipline from an accredited institution. Licensed Professional Engineer is desirable. Membership in professional/technical societies is preferred.
Physically capable of negotiating field conditions such as ditches, streams, rough terrain, etc.
