Who you will work with The Project Manager - Civil Engineering is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing projects across the Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) portfolio while serving as the civil engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) for operating assets.
This role combines project management responsibilities with technical leadership for all civil infrastructure across the US Solar & BESS fleet.
The position manages project scope, budget, schedule, contractors, quality, safety, and compliance while providing civil engineering expertise to Operations, Technical Services, Asset Management, Maintenance Planning, Environmental, and HSE teams. The role also supports technical due diligence activities associated with acquisitions and major remediation or capital improvement programs.
The position will also act as the main O&M referent for environmental needs across the Solar & BESS fleet, coordinating with Environmental, HSE, Asset Management, Engineering, Legal, and site teams to identify needs, track obligations, and support execution of corrective actions.
What you will do - Report to the Regional Manager in support of assigned operating assets and fleet-wide initiatives.
- Manage project development and execution from initiation through closeout, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution, reporting, and documentation.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate activities between Operations, Technical Services, Planning, Engineering, Procurement, HSE, Environmental, and contractors.
- Manage contractor performance, supplier relationships, contracts, budgets, schedules, and quality requirements.
- Serve as Contract Supervisor for assigned projects, including:
- Pre-job planning and contractor alignment.
- Field execution oversight.
- Quality control inspections.
- Documentation review and project closeout.
- Ensure contractual scopes, milestones, deliverables, and acceptance criteria are achieved.
- Coordinate with Maintenance Planning and Technical Services to develop and execute project work plans.
- Monitor project schedules, identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
- Schedule and facilitate project meetings and provide clear action plans, progress updates, and meeting documentation.
- Produce weekly and monthly project status reports for management.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, change orders, invoice verification, and cost tracking.
- Ensure SAP notifications, work orders, service entry sheets, and project documentation are completed accurately and closed in a timely manner.
- Support annual maintenance plans and multi-year capital planning activities.
- Act as the primary civil engineering SME for Solar and BESS operating assets.
- Provide technical support for:
- Access roads and site infrastructure
- Drainage and stormwater systems
- Grading and earthwork
- Erosion and sediment control
- Foundations and equipment pads
- Retaining structures
- Fencing and perimeter infrastructure
- Site restoration activities
- Assess civil asset condition through inspections, field investigations, reports, maintenance history, and contractor assessments.
- Identify civil infrastructure risks and develop corrective action strategies.
- Develop technical specifications, scopes of work, engineering requirements, quality standards, and acceptance criteria for civil projects.
- Review engineering drawings, contractor proposals, construction methodologies, and technical submittals.
- Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities related to civil asset failures or recurring site issues.
- Maintain a fleet-wide civil asset risk register and lessons-learned database.
- Support development of long-term civil asset lifecycle strategies and maintenance programs.
- Support M&A activities by performing civil and environmental due diligence reviews, site visits for prospective acquisitions.
- Identify operational risks, remediation requirements, CAPEX exposure, and long-term maintenance considerations.
- Provide recommendations regarding asset conditions, integration planning, and post-acquisition priorities.
- Serve as the main O&M referent for environmental needs across the Solar & BESS fleet, coordinating requests, obligations, inspections, corrective actions, and recurring environmental support items with the appropriate Environmental and HSE functions.
- Participate and collaborate with Regional team as assigned in support of operations and maintenance.
- Interface with Regional Manager, Technical Services and Planning for the creation and implementation of the annual and 5 year maintenance plan.
- Interface with Purchasing & Logistics in support of any procurement actions as required to support the region.
- Promote the Corporate Safety Policy and behavior-based attitude.
- Support emergency response and recovery efforts related to civil infrastructure failures and environmental impacts.
- Assist in development of contractor strategies and vendor qualification programs.
- Support fleet reliability initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
- Collaborate with Asset Management, Technical Services, Planning, Environmental, HSE, and Operations teams to improve asset performance.
- Promote company safety culture and behavior-based safety practices.
- Identify civil and environmental red flags during acquisition reviews and provide practical O&M input on operational limitations, remediation needs, future maintenance requirements, CAPEX/OPEX assumptions, integration planning, and post-closing priorities.
What you will bring The minimum requirements for this role are:
- BS Civil Engineering required; Master's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management preferred.
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in civil engineering, construction management, project management, renewable energy, power generation, industrial facilities, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing field construction, remediation, maintenance, and capital improvement projects.
- Experience supporting technical due diligence, asset condition assessments, or acquisition reviews preferred.
- Ability to accept temporary construction management assignments.
- Minimum 5 years of project management experience with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and contractor management.
- Experience with utility-scale solar and/or BESS facilities strongly preferred.
- Project Managers Professional (PMP) certificate or comparable experience and/or demonstration of formal training in project management.
- PE license preferred.
- CMRP certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Strong leadership ability to mentor, direct and delegate to project team.
- Practiced organizational skills with ability to manage and implement procedural changes
- Skilled in project management practices and problem solving.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and cooperate effectively with multidisciplinary and multinational teams
- Advanced Knowledge MS Office, Outlook, Excel and MS Project
- Additional IT Tool knowledge required: AutoCAD/Civil 3D (preferred),GIS applications (preferred) SAP, SAP PM, Microsoft Office Suite.
- A valid driver's license operable in all 50 states and Canada and a clean driving record. A clean driving records means:
- In the last 3 years, no driving-related suspension, revocation or cancellation, no disqualifying offenses, no more than 2 moving violations and no reckless driving incidents.
- In the last 5 years, no major driving offenses including DUI/DWI, refusal to test, leaving the scene, driving a commercial vehicle without a CDL, or at-fault fatal accident.
- Ability/flexibility to travel for short and long term periods both domestically and internationally.
