WSP is currently initiating a search for a Civil Engineer Consultant - Land Development focused on civil site development and solid waste/landfill engineering for our Irvine, CA office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

In this role, you will support a variety of civil site development and solid waste/landfill engineering projects for public and private sector clients. The successful candidate will contribute to planning, design, permitting, construction support, and technical analyses while working closely with multidisciplinary teams. This position provides an excellent opportunity to expand technical expertise, build client relationships, and contribute to innovative and sustainable engineering solutions. Some travel may be required.
Your Impact

• Support the planning, design, and execution of civil site development and solid waste/landfill engineering projects.
• Prepare civil layout, grading, drainage, earthwork, and utility designs for a variety of infrastructure, site development, and landfill projects.
• Assist with the preparation of engineering calculations, technical reports, permit applications, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Support construction-phase services, including submittal reviews, responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), site observations, and coordination with contractors.
• Coordinate and collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, project managers, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Contribute to data collection, technical evaluations, and interpretation of engineering and environmental information to support project recommendations.
• Assist in maintaining project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to meet client expectations and project objectives.
• Support quality assurance and quality control reviews of project work products.
• Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction quality assurance (CQA) activities, as required.
• Prepare and implement site-specific Health and Safety Plans in accordance with company policies and project requirements.
• Collaborate with professionals across technical disciplines to deliver quality solutions and exceptional client service.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in civil engineering, land development, site design, solid waste engineering, landfill engineering, or related consulting services.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: civil site design, grading and drainage design, earthwork analysis, utility design, landfill engineering, permitting support, construction administration, or construction quality assurance.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D, including grading design, corridor modeling, alignments, and earthwork volume calculations.
• Working knowledge of engineering design standards, permitting requirements, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret engineering plans, technical documents, specifications, and applicable regulations.
• Proven commitment to workplace safety and ability to comply with WSP's health, safety, drug/alcohol, and anti-harassment policies.
• Ability to adapt to changing project priorities and client needs.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
• Experience in a consulting environment serving public and private sector clients.
• Experience supporting landfill, solid waste, environmental, infrastructure, or land development projects.
• 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certification (29 CFR 1910.120).
• Basic First Aid and Adult CPR certification.
• Experience supporting project coordination, budgeting, scheduling, and client communications.
• Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuous learning.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $94,400 - $135,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
