About this role:

The Head of Equities Business Control Management is responsible for leading the first line of defense control framework across the global Equities franchise. The role partners closely with senior business leaders and enterprise control functions to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate operational, regulatory, supervisory, conduct, and reputational risks while enabling responsible business growth.

The position provides governance, supervision, and control oversight across the Equities business, including Cash Equities, Equity Derivatives, Convertible Securities, Equity Financing, Prime Brokerage, Equity Research, Institutional Sales, and Sales Trading, among other products and business activities. The role is accountable for maintaining a strong control environment through effective governance, regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and continuous improvement. This role reports to the Head of CIB Markets BCM and works closely with Line of Business Supervisors, Business Controls, Business COO teams, and cross0functional partners including Compliance, Risk, Operations, Technology, Audit, Testing and Legal.

The primary objective is to enable the business to operate more efficiently and effectively by maintaining a sound supervisory framework, strong supervision coverage, and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards.

In this role:

Primary responsibilities include the following:

  • Must be able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced and high-pressure environment.

  • Provide senior Business Control Management leadership across the global Equities franchise, including Cash Equities, Equity Derivatives, Convertible Securities, Equity Financing, Prime Brokerage, Equity Research, Institutional Sales, and Sales Trading.

  • Partner with Equities business and desk leadership to provide strategic guidance on governance, supervision, risk management, conduct, and control matters.

  • Oversee governance supporting Equities products, new business initiatives, trading venues, technology implementations, strategic change initiatives, and significant business transformations.

  • Lead the execution and continuous enhancement of the Equities Business Control Framework, including business-specific programs, processes, preventive controls, and detective controls.

  • Identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate operational, regulatory, supervisory, conduct, and reputational risks across Equities businesses, products, and activities.

  • Lead business-aligned supervisory programs, including supervisory procedures, monitoring, quality assurance, escalation, and issue management processes.

  • Partner with Trade Surveillance to ensure appropriate Equities surveillance coverage, governance, and timely remediation of identified issues.

  • Lead RCSA refresh, risk assessments, control evaluations, operational risk event reviews, root cause analysis, and sustainable remediation of control deficiencies.

  • Support regulatory programs and inquiries impacting Equities, including SEC, FINRA, exchange rules, market abuse, best execution, information barriers, Volcker, and other applicable requirements.

  • Partner with Compliance, Risk, Operations, Technology, Audit, Legal, COO teams, and other control partners to strengthen the overall control environment.

  • Develop and present executive-level reporting, dashboards, and governance materials to senior management and governance committees.

  • Build, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Business Control Management team while fostering accountability, collaboration, talent development, and a strong risk culture.


Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of Risk Management or Business Controls experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 4+ years of Management or leadership experience


Desired Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of industry experience in Equity Trading, Controls or Compliance.
  • Ability to demonstrate in-depth trading/product knowledge.

  • Understanding of applicable regulations as it relates to maintaining Equity compliance.

  • In-depth knowledge of FINRA supervision, supervisory programs, role of a supervisor, obligations of a supervisory delegate and risks associated with such.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple stakeholders and deliver results in a timely manner.

  • Self-starter with ability to multitask, manage competing priorities, and effectively lead in a dynamic environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.

  • Strong attention to detail and high-quality standard for work.

  • Commitment to provide timely and accurate guidance to the first line business with strong ability to influence when needed.

  • Inquisitive and proactive mindset with the ability to think creatively to solve problems and anticipate potential questions and issues.

  • Experience handling highly sensitive and confidential information utilizing sound judgement.

  • FINRA Series 7, 24 & 63 licenses preferred but not a pre-requisite. Must be willing to obtain in a timely manner.

  • A BS/BA degree or higher.

Job Expectations:

  • This position is NOT eligible for Visa sponsorship.

  • Ability to work on site per Wells Fargo's standard operating model in the listed location (hybrid schedule)

  • The ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$185,000.00 - $300,000.00
