GENERAL INFORMATION: Division: Library

Barg. Unit: AFSCME-Professional Technical Unit (Pro-Tech)

Status: Full Time- 37.5 hours/week

Grade: 6 ($31.99-$46.23)

Schedule: Hours Vary- some evenings and Saturdays required

SUMMARY: The Lewiston Public Library is seeking an energetic, creative, and enthusiastic Children's Librarian to lead the Children's Department and join the Library's leadership team. Reporting to the Library Director, the Children's Librarian oversees daily department operations, supervises staff and volunteers, and develops engaging programs and services that support the literacy, educational, and informational needs of children and families. This position provides public service and reader's advisory assistance, develops and organizes the children's collection, and builds partnerships with local schools, childcare providers, and community organizations. The Children's Librarian also participates in strategic planning, monitors the department budget, and helps shape the Library's services for the community. The ideal candidate is passionate about children's literacy, enjoys working with families, and brings creativity, strong communication skills, and leadership to the role.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent is required, but a college degree would be preferred. The Lewiston Public Library is constantly evolving to meet 21st century information and research needs, so ideal candidates will be lifelong learners who enjoy acquiring new skills. Applicants should possess a high level of internet and computer skills and an interest in learning about and being a part of the full range of services offered by the Library. Other requirements include: the ability to multi-task, work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, quickly learn library policies, procedures and software; to work well with library users of all ages and diverse backgrounds and to work cooperatively and supportively with colleagues. Familiarity with and interest in reading, adult and children's literature, eBooks and/or mobile devices is preferred.
