Department: Student Health Center Salary: $220,000 - $253,000
Description:

Oversees the daily operations within the psychiatry clinic of the student health center and manages both patients as well as psychiatry support team. Responsible for the enhancement of communications regarding mental health care and management within the department and collaborate closely with other entities treating students with mental health issues at the University of Houston (UH).

1. Direct behavioral health operations within the student health center.
2. Provide psychiatric evaluations for students on referral by physicians, university staff and faculty.
3. Prescribe psychiatric medication as indicated and order labs as needed.
4. Enhance communications and participate in committees addressing mental health issues on campus such as with Counseling and Psychological Services.
5. Supervise the Health Center psychiatrists; provide oversight of performance of junior psychiatrists and daily operations within the psychiatry clinic and routinely provide feedback to executive director.
6. Provide consultation for professional staff at the health center and counseling services as needed.
7. Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress; consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.
8. Improves staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.
9. Assist in the hospitalization of students as necessary: maintain confidentiality in the exchange of patients' medical information.
10. Respond to emergency situations on campus and make self-available for crisis intervention.
11. Conduct educational seminars on topics relevant to mental health practices.
12. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advanced professional discipline or the highest level of general business knowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a directly job-related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
