Full Job Description
We are looking for a Chief of Staff to serve as a trusted advisor and force multiplier for the Chief Technology & AI Officer (CTO), Enterprise Platforms. As Microsoft reimagines engineering enablement and operational excellence in the era of AI, this role drives strategy initiatives and the rhythm of business (ROB), creating clarity in ambiguous situations to drive prioritization and decision making for leaders across the organization. You will lead strategy execution in partnership with the leadership team, design and steward complex budgets, champion organizational health, and drive cross-team projects that meet a fast-changing business environment. This role has potential to evolve into a people leadership role as the function scales.

Responsibilities

Business Operations - Drives the architecture and execution of the Rythum of Business (ROB) and business-review cadence aligned to the scope of the business -building agendas, capturing key insights, and tracking action items to completion. Coordinates continuous planning across Engineering in collaboration with key stakeholders and leads strategy execution across stakeholders, ensuring alignment to priorities and scorecard needs. Partners with Finance to design and steward complex budgets and long-term forecasts, advises on headcount and resource planning, and drives privacy, compliance, and corporate-governance accountability. As appropriate, executes business plans with program managers to ensure business continuity in all conditions.

Maximizing / Extending the Leader - Serves as a thought leader and trusted advisor to the Chief Technology & AI Officer, synthesizing insights and data-driven recommendations across all facets of the Engineering org's operation to influence the leader, leadership team, and organization. Acts as a proxy for the leader and serves as a highly accessible Engineering information source for other major functions, builds and cultivates senior relationships at scale, drives the leadership team's agenda and follow-up, and optimizes use of the leader's time. Lead executive-level communications - developing messaging on mission, strategy, and vision, and performing triage and ghostwriting on the leader's behalf.

Organizational Health - Ensures a healthy scorecard for the organization and champions culture and inclusion initiatives aligned to the defined People Strategy and One Microsoft D&I guidance. Researches, documents, and offers recommendations to keep the Engineering organization on a path of continuous improvement. Partners with Human Resources (HR) and the business management community to act on employee signals, accelerate culture progress, and drive training and compliance completion.

Special Projects / Programs - Drives cross-team projects to manage business needs, leading program management for organization-wide strategic efforts that require hands-on coordination across multiple disciplines. Leads initiatives and projects on behalf of the Chief Technology & AI Officer and the Engineering leadership team, advancing both goal clarity and project execution. Communicates discoveries, progress, and results from initiatives to management and broader organization. Leads strategic innovation and experimentation.

Communications and Customer & Partner Engagement - Drive internal and external communications - shaping the organizational narrative, executive messaging, and high-visibility moments (all-hands, leadership updates). Support the CTO's customer and partner touchpoints - briefing materials, engagement prep, and follow-through. Distill and cascade core tenets of our Engineering strategy and delivery for leadership and other internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years of experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with relationship management including ability to rapidly build trust and confidence of stakeholders, as well as influence business decisions across boundaries, at all levels of the organization, and often in ambiguous situations.

Master's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 12+ years of experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles OR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 15+ years of experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles OR equivalent experience.

Business Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
