Full Job Description
About the role

This is the second hire into the Nooks Legal team, and Chief of Staff to our VP of Legal. You will build the foundations of the function: the systems, processes, and AI layer that allow Legal to keep pace with a quickly growing company.

Day to day, you will be the Legal team's partner to go-to-market, own the operations and technology the function runs on, and handle requests that do not need a lawyer while escalating the ones that do.

If you are a senior paralegal, contract manager, or legal operations professional, this is written for you.

You do not need to be a lawyer. You do need to have used AI tools meaningfully in your own work and have a feel for where they save real time and where they quietly get things wrong. If you have ever thought most of your week could be automated and been mildly annoyed that nobody had done it, we should talk.

What you'll do
Partner with go-to-market

Sales is where most Legal volume originates and where this role will be felt first.
  • Lead on commercial contract questions where a position already exists, across MSAs, DPAs, NDAs, and standard terms
  • Be the trusted partner and day-to-day support for the sales team, so Legal is something they work with rather than wait on
  • Build the workflows and processes that route Legal work effectively, in partnership with Revenue Operations
  • Create and maintain self-serve guidance that enables the team to answer more questions independently over time
Support the wider function
  • Handle inbound requests across privacy, vendor and procurement matters, and routine compliance and corporate matters
  • Resolve what is covered by existing policy, escalate what requires Legal judgment, and make sure requests arrive complete
Own the operations and technology the function runs on
  • Contract lifecycle management, from implementation through to ongoing ownership and maintenance
  • The records and systems that let us answer what we have agreed and what it commits us to
  • Signature routing and authority
  • Vendor and third-party onboarding and contracting
  • Supporting GRC on security and customer diligence requests
  • Corporate, employment and insurance administration, working with People and Finance

Run and extend the AI layer: AI agents already run a good part of how Legal works day to day: reviewing contracts and documents, drafting, triaging what comes in, and helping to prioritize. This person will:
  • Maintain and extend the library, and decide what gets automated next
  • Measure where the agents get things wrong and feed improvements back in
  • Define where an agent can assist and where a human decides

This is ongoing rather than a one-time build. As the business grows and our positions change, the agents need to change with them.

About you

Senior paralegals, contract managers, Legal operations professionals, and strong operators from adjacent functions are all genuinely in scope.
  • You have worked with commercial contracts and have good judgment about where the risk sits in a negotiation, what matters, and what can be conceded
  • You draft accurately and quickly, and you are careful with versions
  • You have good instincts about what you can decide, what needs to be escalated, and the confidence to make decisions rather than simply pass everything up
  • You are an excellent communicator who enjoys working closely with a thriving sales team
  • You can hold a position under commercial pressure while remaining easy to work with
  • You have used AI tools seriously in your work rather than simply tried them, and you can tell us where they earned their keep and where you stopped trusting the output. Having built prompts, workflows, or agents of your own is a strong plus
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity. Some of the foundations are already in place, and others you will build from scratch

This role is not
  • A lawyer role. You will not be giving legal advice, and we are not asking you to carry that risk
  • A pure AI role. The agents are how the job scales, not what the job is
  • Process administration. You will be making calls and owning outcomes, not taking messages and routing them
  • A role above the work. This is an early hire into a function we are still building. You may make a judgment call about a $200K deal in one hour and fix a signature block in the next, and both matter. If that sounds like a step down rather than a chance to build something, this is not the job for you

The Process

We will run an interview process which will include a practical exercise

We will also show you one of the AI agents we already run and ask where you think it could go wrong. We are more interested in your instinct for that than in the tools listed on your resume.
