Position Summary: The Chief of Staff will coordinate strategic planning, executive decision making, communications, stakeholder engagement, and cross functional priority management for the Division of Finance, Administration and Human Resources. The position facilitates alignment across the Division and across New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) offices. Performs related work.

Key Relationships: Mayor's Office, OMB, NYCPS Cabinet and their leadership teams, and other high level officials from City, State, and Federal government agencies and departments, and external partners and stakeholders. This role will also work closely with the leadership of the Offices of Finance, Division of Contracts and Purchasing, Division of Human Resources, Office of M/WBE and Office of School Budget and Finance.
Responsibilities - Support the Deputy Chancellor in the development and implementation of policies, practices, and procedures in support of the mission of the school system as well as NYCPS stated goals and objectives.
- Serve as a daily trusted thought partner to the Deputy Chancellor on a variety of issues, including confidential issues.
- Coordinate executive planning, communications, and follow up processes that support implementation of Deputy Chancellor priorities while partnering with the Chief Administrative Officer, who is responsible for operational execution and organizational performance. Facilitate collaboration on initiatives that span multiple functions or business units.
- Manage high priority projects on behalf of the Deputy Chancellor and ensure accountability and follow through on executive decisions and commitments.
- Monitor progress against strategic objectives and key milestones.
- Coordinate implementation plans and reports for major initiatives.
- Support executive communications and messaging and ensure consistent communication of organizational priorities and decisions.
- Coordinate executive meetings, cabinet materials, briefings, testimony, speeches, and presentations.
- Manage special functions and activities; assign these projects to appropriate staff for further work and deliverables, as necessary.
- Represent the executive in meetings and engagements as appropriate.
- Develop policy recommendations and executive guidance for consideration by the Deputy Chancellor, ensuring alignment with City, State, Federal, and NYCPS priorities.
- Serve as a liaison between the executive office and key stakeholders throughout the organization.
Qualification Requirements: Minimum A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 4 years of satisfactory experience of a nature to qualify for the duties and responsibilities of the position, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, consultative or executive capacity or supervising personnel performing activities related to the duties of the position; or A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive, consultative or supervisory experience described in "1" above. Preferred - 18 Months experience in managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity.
- Ability to think strategically to design and implement large scale organizational initiatives in partnership with a range of stakeholders.

- Very strong spoken and written communication skills and capacity to tailor communications to a wide range of audiences.

- Ability to manage policy research on difficult, complex, controversial, and sensitive issues affecting public education.
- Ability to generate initiatives and ideas that are relevant and helpful to the school system and supportive to the accomplishment of its mission.
- Ability to effectively cultivate and manage internal and external relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of NYCPS program finance, procurement and purchasing policies, procedures, organizations, issues, IT systems and initiatives.
- Attentive to detail, extremely well organized, able to work under pressure, with a willingness to dig into the details and "roll up your sleeves" to meet frequent and changing deadlines.
Salary : $168,182 - 185,000
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
