Position Description: The Chief Medical Director provides enterprise wide clinical leadership ensuring that all disability examinations meet or exceed U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) standards for clinical sufficiency, diagnostic accuracy, and evidence based medical judgment. As the senior clinical executive, this leader oversees clinical governance, policy, and quality strategy across hundreds of examiners and multiple specialty disciplines. Their authoritative guidance ensures examination outcomes withstand VA review, adjudication, and appeals processes while driving clinical excellence and regulatory compliance throughout the organization.
This position is located in our Fairfax or Arlington Virginia office, with an expectation of being on our client site in Washington, DC up to 3 times per week.
Your future duties and responsibilities:• Establish and lead enterprise clinical policy, governance, and compliance for Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs), Specialty Health Assessments (SHA), Separation Health Physical Exams (SHPE), and Acceptable Clinical Evidence (ACE) determinations.
• Provide executive oversight of examiner credentialing, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and remediation across all specialty disciplines.
• Review and adjudicate complex or sensitive DBQs, SHA/SHPE examinations, and ACE determinations to ensure accuracy, defensibility, and alignment with VA standards.
• Direct specialty coverage strategy, workforce planning, and examiner optimization to maintain consistent, high quality nationwide clinical services.
• Serve as the senior clinical liaison with the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) and the Medical Disability Examination Office (MDEO), representing the organization in high level clinical, regulatory, and audit engagements.
• Oversee clinical quality assurance programs, documentation integrity, telehealth practice standards, and audit readiness across the enterprise.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:• MD or DO with active, unrestricted medical license, and 8-10 years of progressive clinical leadership experience.
• Board certification in a core specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Orthopedics).
• Demonstrated success leading multi specialty clinical teams and complex medical operations.
• Working knowledge of telehealth practices, disability evaluation processes, and VA Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs).
Desired Qualifications
• Prior experience conducting VA or military disability examinations.
• Telemedicine certification.
• Experience directing clinical quality assurance, clinical auditing, or regulatory compliance programs.

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $161,400.00 $310,700.00.
