Description

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Strategic enough for the boardroom. Hands-on enough to build the model.

San Diego, CA | Hybrid | Executive Leadership Team

This is a unique opportunity for a strategic, hands-on financial leader who thrives in a lean, entrepreneurial, private equity-backed environment. You'll partner directly with our CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and Private Equity stakeholders - while remaining close enough to the business to personally dig into the models, forecasts, cash flow, and financial drivers behind the decisions. If you love strategy but still love Excel, keep reading.

The Opportunity

As Verve's CFO, you'll lead the financial strategy and operations of the company while helping shape our next chapter of growth and value creation.

You'll be our senior financial thought partner - bringing clarity to complexity, challenging assumptions, identifying opportunities, protecting liquidity, and helping us make smarter decisions.

But here's what makes this role different:

This is a player-coach CFO role.

You won't have a large FP&A organization underneath you. In fact, you'll serve as Verve's sole FP&A resource, personally owning and executing budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, analysis, and reporting while supporting department leaders as they develop and manage their own budgets.

One day you may be presenting financial insights to the Board. The next, you may be building a scenario model, analyzing a variance, working through a debt covenant, or helping a department leader understand the economics behind a decision. If that sounds energizing rather than intimidating, we should talk.

What You'll Own

You'll have a broad seat at the table, with responsibility spanning:
  • Financial Strategy & Business Partnership - Partner with the CEO and leadership team on financial strategy, long-range planning, growth initiatives, and enterprise value creation.
  • Hands-On FP&A - Personally own forecasting, modeling, analysis, reporting, scenario planning, and budget-to-actual performance.
  • Private Equity & Board Partnership - Serve as a trusted financial partner to our PE stakeholders and Board, translating complex financial information into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Cash, Liquidity & Capital Structure - Manage cash flow, working capital, liquidity planning, banking relationships, and capital allocation.
  • Debt & Covenant Management - Lead the management of multi-million-dollar senior secured debt facilities, lender relationships, refinancing activities, debt administration, and proactive covenant forecasting.
  • Accounting, Controls & Compliance - Ensure strong GAAP reporting, effective controls, timely close processes, audits, tax filings, and financial discipline.
  • Leadership - Lead and develop Finance and Accounting while creating accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the organization.

Who Will Thrive Here

We're looking for someone who can move comfortably between big-picture strategy and detailed execution.

You may be a great fit if you:

Think like an executive. Operate like an owner. Work like a builder.

You're comfortable advising a CEO in the morning and opening the financial model yourself that afternoon. You ask good questions, challenge assumptions constructively, and know when the numbers are telling you there's more to the story.

You're also energized by an organization where there is still an opportunity to build, improve, simplify, and scale - rather than simply inherit mature processes and a large finance infrastructure.

And just as importantly, how you lead matters here. We value collaboration, transparency, accountability, strong relationships, and leaders who balance financial performance with the impact their decisions have on people and the long-term health of the business.

Requirements

What You Bring

We're particularly interested in candidates with:
  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including CFO, VP Finance, or comparable senior leadership experience
  • Proven experience within a private equity-backed company
  • Strong FP&A expertise and advanced financial modeling capabilities
  • Demonstrated success improving EBITDA and managing cost structures
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar senior secured debt facilities, liquidity, lender relationships, and covenant compliance
  • Strong command of GAAP, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls
  • Experience working directly with Boards, investors, and other external stakeholders
  • Experience with recurring-revenue business models such as UCaaS, SaaS, or telecommunications
  • A track record of developing high-performing finance teams
  • Experience in a $20M-$100M revenue organization, M&A/recapitalization/exit environments, finance-system scaling, and telecom/UCaaS is especially valuable. CPA and/or MBA credentials are preferred.
