Full Job Description
The Chief Engineer - Power Electronics Control will be responsible for developing, implementing, and validating control systems for a wide range of power conversion, energy systems, and protection products. Additionally, they will drive the adoption of model-based techniques during the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, including Model in the Loop (MIL) and Hardware in the Loop (HIL) methodologies for design and validation of new products within Eaton's portfolio.

Responsibilities:
• Lead power electronics and battery control and protection algorithms for electric motors, power converters, and energy storage systems, taking full ownership of assigned tasks or projects.
• Performs modeling and simulation for the electric motors, power converters, and battery control development
• Implements, tests, and troubleshoots control firmware
• Establish system & sub-system level control requirements from functional specifications and application needs
• Plans and performs control algorithms and firmware development and validation on HIL and lab
• Creates technical reports and presentations
• Guides and nurtures other control engineers to enhance their technical skills and experience.
• Supports the development of PE and Battery CoE strategy, direction, and priorities.
• Keeps abreast of the latest power electronics technologies and business trends, applies this knowledge to power conversion and protection, and identifies new opportunities.
• Promotes engineering excellence in both the PE and Battery CoE and the BU's teams.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university
• Minimum 12 years of professional experience
• Minimum 10 years experience developing and implementing control algorithms for electric motors, power converters, or energy storage systems, which could include academic or research experience.
• Minimum 10 years of experience with DSP, microcontrollers, and standard peripheral components
• Minimum 3 years of experience with HIL modeling development and testing

Preferred Qualifications:
• MS or PhD in engineering
• At least 3 years of experience in leading teams or projects from a technical perspective.
• Strong background in digital control, electric motor/power converter/battery control techniques
• Experience in developing and implementing control for electric motors, power converters, and energy storage systems using auto-code generation tools (e.g., Simulink Coder).
• Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and digital signal processing.
• Familiarity with power electronics or energy storage systems hardware.
• Working knowledge of HIL hardware and software.
• Ability to quickly learn new skills, technical knowledge, products, or industry.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in diverse cultural settings with global customers and team members.
• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes (e.g., DFMEA, 8D).
