This position is for the M-Code Guidance Set (MGS) Chief Engineer role in the Precision Fires Rockets (PFR) Development program area. This role reports to the Precision Fires Rockets Development Chief Engineer programmatically and will be expected to work closely with the other members of the Precision Fires Chief Engineer as well as the PFR program and customer community. You will need demonstrated extensive rocket system design experience and an in-depth understanding of rocket hardware and software/firmware, including rocket sensors, guidance systems, fuze systems, warheads, and propulsion systems. You should have demonstrated experience in planning and leading technical solutions from proposal through all aspects of development including SRR, PDR, CDR, Qualification, System Verification & Test, FCA and transition to production

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Providing technical leadership that enables the team to meet and demonstrate all MGS development and production milestones on schedule
  • Providing technical support and working with the U.S. Government (USG) customer and subsystem suppliers to architect rocket systems to meet the warfighter's needs
  • Developing and nurturing a productive partnership with the USG customer
  • Guiding IPT leads and cross-functional teams in program planning, scheduling, trade studies, design concepts, verification, and critical life cycle reviews
  • Ensuring program staffing is appropriate from an E&T perspective
  • Collaborating with Engineering Excellence management to ensure program milestones are successfully completed
  • Supporting and leading program technical reviews and participating in monthly E&T meetings, staff meetings, and other critical program activities
  • Communicating lessons learned and ensuring synergy across tasks with the entire Chief Engineer staff

Accountable for all aspects of engineering and technology activities within a program, program area, or line of business to ensure mission milestones and business objectives are met. Serves as the primary technical authority / technical interface with internal program management and external customers. Ensures proposals have sound technical solutions and schedules and drive affordability. Leads a technical team of cross functional engineers to ensure successful proper system/product development and execution. Evaluates and ensures complex issues are resolved in a cost effective, innovative way. Champion mission success and drive a mission success culture. Directs a team into exploration of new problem solution areas with novel concepts and approaches, guiding scope definition and prioritizing problems for investigation. Determine appropriate risk posture and develop mitigation strategies for complex projects. Ensure selected designs are robust and include appropriate margins to facilitate safety, performance, producibility and operational availability/supportability. Ensures program plans and technical baselines are consistent with Program Control processes and Modern Engineering Practices. Responsible for key decision making that impact businesses, the failure to achieve the objectives result in critical impact of program capabilities. Ensures identification of lessons learned, and corrective action are initiated and implemented to improve future and ongoing programs. Provides technical mentoring and career development support of team and allocates resources effectively. Leads and directs the technical execution efforts of the program or LOB.

Basic Qualifications

  • Have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, with existing professional experience
  • Experience and demonstrated skillset with rocket systems/subsystems and design
  • Must possess ability to plan and lead the technical efforts associated with rocket systems/subsystems development, qualification, system integration, and flight tests
  • Candidate will be required to communicate technical status and issues internally to program leadership, technical leadership and functional leadership as well as externally to the USG customer
  • Must be available for occasional domestic travel
  • Candidate must have a Secret clearance


Desired Skills

  • An advanced degree in engineering from an accredited college or university is desired
  • Prior experience at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is highly desired
  • Working knowledge of dealing with subcontractors and subcontract technical management is a plus
  • Candidate should have wide experience/familiarity in collaborating with the Engineering & Technology functional organization
  • Ability to interface with the USG Customer office and global supply base
  • Ability to support technical reviews internally, with the customer, and external stakeholders, and at supplier locations
  • Experience in leading Failure Analysis and Failure Review Boards


Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $148300.00 - $275500.00

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
