Position Summary

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance of the building. As a department head, this position directs and works with employees to successfully execute all engineering operations, including proper operation, maintenance, and repair of all HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, life safety, electrical and mechanical equipment/systems. Works to establish a safe and secure environment for all guests and associates. Strives to continually improve guest and employee satisfaction and maximize the financial performance of the department.

Essential Functions
  • Lead and oversee all engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring the reliability, safety, and comfort of staff and guests.
  • Manage and execute the Preventative Maintenance Program for all hotel systems, including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, boilers, refrigeration, and related equipment.
  • Oversee hotel renovation, capital construction, and major maintenance projects, ensuring adherence to quality and schedule.
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor all maintenance programs and standards for guest rooms, public spaces, equipment, and public safety (including emergency evacuation and fire/life safety systems).
  • Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships, ensuring quality, timely delivery, and compliance with warranties and upgrades.
  • Direct departmental training programs, facilitate onboarding, and ensure associates are trained on technical and safety standards; review and revise training as needed.
  • Hire, supervise, and develop a high-performing team in alignment with the hotel's core values, fostering open communication and teamwork.
  • Create and manage annual Capex and operating budgets; ensure appropriate staffing levels and effective scheduling to meet operational, payroll, and financial goals.
  • Administer property policies and standard operating procedures fairly; ensure proper documentation of discipline, performance feedback, and employee satisfaction.
  • Maintain necessary documentation and supplies, monitor day-to-day operations to assure quality, and perform additional duties as assigned by management.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with departmental policies, service procedures, brand standards, and safety and security procedures.
  • Perform all additional duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • 2+ yrs of experience as a Director or Engineering Manager, preferable in a hotel or multi-unit residential setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Preventive Maintenance programs.
  • Prior experience managing vendor relationships and sourcing project bids.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Certifications are a plus, but not required.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to apply them in a dynamic environment.
  • Participate in establishing goals and objectives for department.
  • Must have strategic planning skills; ability to translate financial concepts into actionable business strategies and tactics.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Understand and align with the mission, vision, and goals of the hotel.
  • Prioritize tasks, work efficiently with limited supervision, and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively in the primary workplace language, demonstrating excellent communication, follow-up, and organizational skills.
  • Work well under pressure and in challenging conditions, using good judgment to resolve problems, follow directions, and collaborate effectively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

The minimum physical requirements for this position include but are not limited to:
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to hear, understand and communicate orally and in writing to communicate with staff, vendors, and guests in-person and phone conversation
  • Ability to bend and twist, push, and pull, stoop, and kneel
  • Ascend and descend a ladder

Pay: The salary range for this position is $75,000-$90,000 annually plus incentive eligibility based on performance.
