As Head Buyerr, reporting to the Director of Procurement Operations, you will be responsible for supporting, coordinating, and guiding the team of buyers responsible for materials, external rental services, and transportation.
You will also be mandated to participate in the renewal and development of various types of supplier agreements and ensure compliance with their terms and conditions. Certain categories of purchases will be managed directly by the incumbent of this role.
In addition, you will provide technical support to the various stakeholders within the procurement function.

What you will do
• Oversee the day-to-day management of a team of approximately 12 buyers.
Source suppliers and manage supplier relationships, including key and strategic supplier accounts, to optimize financial and operational performance, in close collaboration with the Strategic Procurement department.
• Act as a liaison between operational needs and the Strategic Procurement team to adjust existing agreements or support upcoming ones.
• Identify potential suppliers, evaluate proposals, and negotiate contracts to ensure best value for money.
• Manage the procurement of specialized and high-value materials and equipment.
• Open and set up new supplier accounts.
• Provide technical support related to procurement platforms and tools (ERP, ServiceNow, internal procedures, etc.).
• Request and analyze supplier quotations.
• Attend industry-related trade shows and relevant procurement events.
• Ensure strong alignment and cohesion between the Procurement department and site-based buyers.
• Collaborate closely with Accounts Payable to ensure smooth supplier relationships and timely payments.
• Develop and maintain procurement records, including contracts, purchase orders, and supplier performance indicators.
• Prepare and present reports for senior management, providing updates on procurement activities and corrective action plans when required.
• Ensure all procurement activities comply with internal procedures as well as legal and ethical standards.
• Visit construction sites as needed to develop and support local sourcing strategies.
• Support the implementation of new initiatives and continuous improvement projects, including technology enhancements, within the Procurement department.

This role could be for you if you have
• More than 5 years of experience in procurement within the construction industry.
• Experience, knowledge, and existing relationships with major local suppliers across Canada (considered an asset).
• Hands-on experience implementing and working with ERP systems.
• Practical experience with procurement processes, methods, best practices, and contract administration, as well as a solid understanding of accounting and planning principles.
• Strong knowledge of sourcing processes, including supplier research, contract negotiation, and supplier management.
• The ability to work effectively and independently with minimal supervision.
• Availability to travel to oversee the performance of the procurement team and key suppliers
