Full Job Description
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) department at State Street is responsible for the identification, analysis, and management of risk at both the corporate-level and in partnership with the business units in support of their activities. This is accomplished by balancing our growth and revenue targets with appropriate risk oversight, policies, guidelines and limits, as well as support provided by risk management professionals.

Strategic Risk within ERM is focused on the management of risks arising from State Street's business strategy and its execution and risks related to a lack of appropriate adaptation to changes in the industry and broader environment. A core driver of Strategic Risk is the design, delivery and implementation of enterprise change, including new business and product development, M&A, lift-outs, strategic change programs and broader strategy execution, where the pace, scale and complexity of change can materially affect the firm's risk profile. Led by the Head of Operational Resiliency, Third Party, and Strategic Risk, the Strategic Risk practice at State Street is an emerging practice for the firm, and the ideal candidate will have the opportunity to help shape and influence its evolution.

Who we are looking for: The group is seeking a highly qualified individual to support the ongoing development of State Street's change risk management capabilities, including establishing new programs and associated governance.

Major responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating both within the group and with cross-functional teams across the organization to establish new practices in change risk as well as to further develop existing areas of practice
  • Providing oversight across the enterprise change portfolio and integrating change risks into management reporting and dashboards
  • Supporting the development of new risk assessment and measurement methodologies and frameworks
  • Managing prioritization of key activities, project plans, and related remediation work
  • Supporting the production of senior management-level updates and presentation materials for various forums including the Chief Risk Officer and senior Management- and Board-level risk governance committees
  • Ability to provide a strategic perspective while maintaining a detail-oriented approach to deliverables to ensure a high standard of quality and accuracy

What we value
  • Demonstrable track record of independent decision making, along with strong written and oral communication and presentational skills
  • Ability to distil complex or new and ambiguous concepts into actionable frameworks and meaningful guidance for internal stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently
  • Demonstrated high energy and strong motivation to add value to the organization

Qualifications and Skills:
  • 6+ years of financial services experience in risk management, transformation, or change-related roles within first or second lines of defense
  • Proven ability to design and implement risk management programs, including policies, standards, governance routines, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Risk or project management certifications are a plus
  • Independent, strategic thinker; comfortable operating in ambiguity, shaping direction, and making judgment-based decisions with limited guidance.
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to assess emerging risks and propose pragmatic solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and develop solutions in nascent or emerging areas
  • Strong technical and quantitative skills
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, regulated environment within an evolving and maturing risk discipline.
  • Background in the creation of effective presentations on results of key initiatives
  • Project management skills, including coordination with key stakeholders across the organization
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.

The position will report to the Chief Risk Officer's Chief of Staff, who is a member of the Enterprise Risk Management Executive Management Team.

Salary Range:
$90,000 - $157,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.

Employees are eligible to participate in State Street's comprehensive benefits program, which includes: our retirement savings plan (401K) with company match; insurance coverage including basic life, medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and other optional additional coverages; paid-time off including vacation, sick leave, short term disability, and family care responsibilities; access to our Employee Assistance Program; incentive compensation including eligibility for annual performance-based awards (excluding certain sales roles subject to sales incentive plans); and, eligibility for certain tax advantaged savings plans.
