Job Description

The Certified Pharmacy Technician prepares, under Mount Sinai Pharmacy guidelines, pharmaceutical orders for patient care areas, maintains adequate stock levels, reviews medical areas for expired drugs, maintains refrigeration temperature logs, and provides general assistance to pharmacists.

Responsibilities

1.Fillsmedication orders accurately.

2.Retrievesand delivers medication in a timely fashion.

3.Maintainsadequate stock levels in the pharmacy and does not over-stock.

4.Prepares/checks Urgent Use Stock orders for patient care areas accurately and does notover-stock.

5.Reviewsmedication areas for expired drugs in a timely fashion.

6.Maintainsmedication refrigerator temperature logs in pharmacy areas and nursing units (asassigned).

7.Determinesthe intravenous antibiotic needs of each of the satellite units at thebeginning of the shift.

8.PreparesLaminar Flow Hood for usage.

9.Operatesthe Baxa pump.

10.Reconstitutes antibioticpiggyback bottles with the proper diluents using aseptic technique.

11.Defrosts frozen antibioticintravenous mini-bags.

12.Prepares antibioticconcentrate and aseptically adds to diluents mini-bags.

13.Rotates all antibioticproducts to maintain the maximum expiration and properly disposes of allexpired products.

14.Fills orders for satellitesnot involved with centralized IV program.

15.Maintains the area in a neatand hygienic manner.

16.Properly disposes of allintravenous needles and tubing and equipment.

17.Assists in maintaining allrequired records.

18.Provides general assistanceto the pharmacist.

19.Maintains inventory of allneeded intravenous supplies.

20.Prepares allpre-manufactured I.V.s with patient label to be checked by pharmacist.

21.Delivery of patient IVs tonursing units.

22.Performs all related dutiesas required.

Qualifications

  • HS/GED; Graduate of an approved pharmacy technician training program, OR an advanced degree, i.e. a Pharmacy Degree from another country OR relevant experience.
  • 1-2 years relevant experience as a hospital pharmacy technician preferred: IV experience preferred

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $39.25 - $39.25 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
