Job Title: Certified Nurse Midwife

Department: Patient Services

Reports to: Medical Director of Sexual and Reproductive Health

Location: Washington, DC and/or Hyattsville, MD

Classification: Exempt/ Salaried

Work setting: Clinic/Outpatient

Position Summary

LCPD is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Certified Nurse Midwife to join our growing Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Team for a full-time position. This is an opportunity to practice outpatient midwifery care in a supportive environment. The nurse-midwife will provide comprehensive outpatient perinatal care for low-risk patients and routine gynecologic care within a mission-driven, community health setting. Working with interdisciplinary clinical teams, they will deliver high-quality, evidence-based care while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and equity. The nurse-midwife will work in close partnership with an experienced Obstetrician/Gynecologist, and other Family Practice Clinicians.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Certified Nurse Midwife with Board Certification from AMCB
  • Current licensure (or willing to apply) in the District of Columbia and/or Maryland
  • 3 years of midwifery experience
  • Experience using electronic health records in ambulatory settings


Preferred:

  • Experience working in FQHCs or community health settings
  • Routine gynecology and family planning experience, or willingness to learn
  • Spanish proficiency is a plus, but not required


Key Responsibilities

Clinical care

  • Provide comprehensive perinatal care, including early pregnancy assessment, prenatal, postpartum care, and acute outpatient visits during the perinatal period.
  • Conduct routine female reproductive and sexual health exams, pap smears, sexually transmitted infection screening and treatment, provide family planning care and evaluate and manage acute gynecologic complaints.
  • Perform limited bedside obstetric ultrasounds.
  • Perform procedures such as LARC insertions and removals. Opportunity to perform endometrial biopsies and colposcopies, if interested.
  • Conduct clinical histories, physical examinations, assessments, and diagnostic evaluations; develop and implement appropriate treatment plans.
  • Consult with obstetrician-gynecologist as needed.
  • Review and incorporate outside records, consultant reports, and diagnostic results into clinical decision-making.
  • Coordinate referrals and additional services including behavioral health, nursing, case management, and specialty care.
  • No intrapartum management/deliveries; however, may be able to moonlight.


Team-Based & Integrated Care
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary care teams to support whole-person care.
  • Participate in regular multidisciplinary team meetings and shared care planning.
  • Provide clinical guidance and informal mentorship to staff as appropriate.


Teaching & Training

  • Participate in continuing education and in-service programs.
  • Participate in training to enhance ability to care for specific populations and conditions.
  • May supervise health professional students and graduates as needed.


Administrative

  • Participate in clinical quality improvement and risk management activities in collaboration with the perinatal clinical team.
  • Document appropriate clinical information in the electronic health record in a timely manner, completing documentation of clinical encounters and locking progress notes within 48 hours.
  • Meet regularly with supervisor to report and review clinical performance, documentation, quality of care measures, patient feedback and other topics as determined by supervisor.
  • Abide by La Clínica del Pueblo's policies, procedures, and requirements for clinical staff, including but not limited to those pertaining to clinical documentation, billing and coding, protected health information, and communications.
  • Perform other relevant activities as assigned.
