Full Job Description
HDR is looking for a Resources Business Group Manager to lead our Power, Waste, and Industrial business lines in Central Texas. This position can be based out of any of our Central Texas (Austin, Round Rock, or San Antonio) offices and will require periodic travel across the area. This position will report to the Central Texas Area Manager who is based in San Antonio. This individual will be expected to execute the annual business plan of the Central Texas Resources Business Group. They will work in partnership with the Central Resources Business Group Director to deliver on the existing program and profitably growing and diversifying it accordingly. On a day-to-day basis, this individual will be expected to:
  • Take responsibility for operations including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support.
  • Function as a Client and Project Manager by taking responsibility for client service and project delivery in addition to business group management responsibilities.
  • Take administrative responsibility for the staff and technical service functions and lead and coordinate services with other business groups.
  • Be directly involved in business development planning, proposals, and interviews.
  • See that the work is planned, organized, controlled, delivered with quality, and evaluated through a proactive project management system.
  • Implement, monitor, and support company policy.
  • Select, train, develop, manage, and coach project delivery personnel.
  • Manage and develop multidiscipline teams.
  • Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing in local and national marketing and production efforts.
  • Collaborate with Business Group Market Sector Directors and the Regional Business Group Director to bring the Power, Waste, and Industrial market sector vision to fruition in the local marketplace.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
In the role of Central Texas Resources Business Group Manager, we'll count on you to: Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Leadership - Provides leadership/direction in the execution of strategy and initiatives in coordination with other Area, Business Group and Market Sector Leadership.
  • Controlling - Responsible for the operational metrics for the Area Resources Business Group.
  • Staffing - Assist in prioritization of hires, identification and recruiting of candidates.
  • Client Management Leadership and Assistance - Collaborate with staff in the definition and engagement strategy for clients within the Area for the development of client development plans.
  • Alignment of Resources - Coordinate the alignment of internal resources to the needs of our clients and the achievement of goals.
  • Proactive Engagement - Consistently demonstrates "can-do" problem solver approach to colleagues and clients.
  • Quality - Consistent focus on quality deliverables, including proposals, reports, financials, and project deliverables
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and communicate progress toward period and annual net fee bookings goals.
  • Work closely with sector business development leaders (BDLs) to observe trends, adjust projections, and make required alterations to plan in an effort to achieve year over year goals and cost management targets.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or closely related discipline
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant project delivery experience in power, solid waste, industrial, mining, oil and gas, or other related industries
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration
  • Solid experience including managing staff, clients, contracts and hiring staff for an engineering consulting or similar firm
  • Demonstrated experience with leading diverse teams
  • Ability and dedication to continue to grow the area's Resources Business Group team
  • Proven marketing and business development skills in addition to contacts/relationships with clients in the industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated team building capabilities
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments effectively and balance multiple demands
