Position Title:

J3 General Mechanic Maintenance Technician (CCF)

Columbus, MS

Pay Rate:

$49.19/hour

Category/Shift:

Hourly Full-Time / Our maintenance technicians generally work a four day 10-hour schedule...Monday through Thursday 7:00am to 5:30pm with every fourth Friday scheduled as an 8-hour day (7:00am-3:30pm).

About The Role:

This position supports International Paper's Columbus Cellulose Fibers (CCF) facility, located in Columbus, Mississippi. CCF is a vital part of IP's Global Cellulose Fibers Business. This is a J3 level General Mechanic Maintenance Technician position in an advanced team-based work system. Successful candidates should have the desire and ability to complete scheduled and routine maintenance tasks in a continuous-process industry.

Position Responsibilities:

We're looking for strong multi-skilled candidates with in-depth maintenance knowledge and practical application experience in areas such as:
  • Application, installation, and replacement of tapered and straight bore bearings
  • Rigging and setting of heavy equipment and machinery
  • Precision alignment of equipment and machinery
  • Installation and repair of centrifugal process pumps
  • Installation and maintenance of mechanical seals
  • Installation and repair of mechanical drives, speed reducers, clutches, etc.
  • Installation and repair of belt, drag, screw, and other mechanical conveyor systems
  • Installation and repair of hydraulic systems and components
  • Setting and alignment of large electrical motors
  • Installation, repair, and alignment of rotary and centrifugal compressors
  • Installation, repair, and alignment of boiler feedwater pumps
  • Installation, repair, and alignment of steam turbines and drives
  • Installation and repair of agitators and mixers
  • Maintenance of high and low pressure steam systems
  • Installation and repair of shafts, bearing fits, etc. (light to moderate machining)
  • Boring couplings, cutting keyways, etc.
  • Heating and cutting with oxy-acetyl torch, including cutting bearings from shafts
  • Maintenance repair welding using arc, MIG, and/or TIG processes
  • Installation and repair of process piping systems, valves, supports, etc.
  • Troubleshooting skills including use of drawings, diagrams, and manuals
  • Preventive and predictive maintenance on critical equipment

Required:
  • Must be at least age 18
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
  • Formal technical/trade school training (or equivalent experience) in mechanical maintenance
  • Five or more years verifiable industrial experience as a J3 General Mechanical Maintenance Technician
  • Previous multi-skilled maintenance experience
  • Must possess high standards in the areas of safety, quality, ethics, craftsmanship, customer focus, and leadership skills.
  • Skilled in maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical related equipment and process problems
  • Able to work around hazardous chemicals with appropriate personal protective equipment and training.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and shifts as business needs require.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic Math and Computer Skills.
  • Measurable Mechanical Aptitude.
  • Motivated to develop career skills.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background check.
  • Able to lift/handle 50 pounds occasionally and 2 - 20 pounds regularly
  • Able to climb steps and ladders, enter small vessels, work from heights, turn large valves, stand or walk for 2 - 3 hours at a time for 10 - 12 hours, work in extreme temperatures (hot/cold) in a noisy environment while wearing all required personal protective equipment.

Preferred:
  • Two year Associate Degree in any of the IP Core Maintenance skills or related mechanical disciplines. Advanced education preferred
  • Prefer industrial experience as a multi-craft technician including welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, pipefitting, and rigging
  • Prefer experience in the pulp and paper industry
  • Demonstrated leadership skills a plus
  • Demonstrated success in an advanced work system
  • Demonstrated computer functionality
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Software
