Job Description:

Role Definition
We are seeking a Category Procurement Manager. This person will manage strategic breakthrough categories to deliver year-over-year Quality Cost Logistics Development Management (QCLDM) performance improvement.

What You Will Do:
  • Accountable for the development, communication, and implementation of a worldwide sourcing strategy for a specific category.
  • Identifying performance gaps within the supply base and developing improvement plans for the identified gaps.
  • Collaborating with the Supply Network on risk mitigation and using predictive cost modeling both geographic and component-based.
  • Identifying, developing, and managing a high-performing global supply network for one or more categories leveraging Procurement Classification Codes (PCC).

Preferred but Not Required
Prior Procurement experience in Castings, Fabrications, and/or Non-Metallics categories
Prior Procurement experience in Drivetrain components

Category Management: Knowledge of category management within an organization's goods and services sector; ability to use this knowledge to analyze and improve the end-to-end procurement process and maximize business profitability.

Level Extensive Experience:
  • Advises on streamlining the procurement strategy to realize the strategic benefits of category management.
  • Designs and develops supplier agreements and procurement policies with standard terms and conditions.
  • Identifies roadblocks in the implementation of category management and recommends innovative solutions.
  • Prepares reports to evaluate the impact of category management on the procurement process and present ROI data to management.
  • Supervises the execution of all stages of the category management process.
  • Trains others on category management to ensure a streamlined procurement process.


Supplier Management - MFG: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.

Level Extensive Experience:
  • Facilitates supplier partnering arrangements that share risk and reward.
  • Monitors supplier performance; works to resolve discrepancies between performance and agreements.
  • Develops quality standards and controls for suppliers.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with multiple and/or large suppliers.
  • Evaluates issues and terminates supplier relationships as appropriate; works with legal departments.
  • Ensures the fulfillment of report and record-keeping requirements.


Strategic Sourcing: Knowledge of strategic sourcing methods, technologies and processes; ability to analyze, improve and re-evaluate organizational procurement process continuously.
  • Level Extensive Experience:
  • Participates in monitoring the execution for all stages of the strategic sourcing process.
  • Trains others on strategic sourcing in multiple and diverse environments.
  • Designs and develops standard supplier agreements and procurement policies with standardized terms and conditions.
  • Works with complex strategic sourcing components including but not limited to negotiations, contracting, and continuous process improvement and implementation.
  • Consults on strategic sourcing methods in relation to business relationships, inter-dependencies and integration.
  • Develops and explains strategic sourcing best practices and rationale for the organization and industry.

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
