Great American's Corporate Claims Resolution Services (CRS) team receives a variety of claims from numerous Great American Insurance Company divisions involving property, general liability, professional liability, ocean marine, commercial auto, employer's liability, aviation, and employment practices liability. In addition, CRS handles Great American's legacy claims.
The demand for CRS' services currently exceeds the capacity of the senior management team. As such, CRS is creating a new senior management position to increase its capacity to take on new business and to help build with its succession planning talent pool.
CRS is seeking an experienced Claims Director to lead and inspire a high-performing team of claims professionals, including claims managers. This leadership role offers significant autonomy and influence, balancing strategic oversight with hands-on involvement in complex, high-impact claims matters. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a proven ability to make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment. Working collaboratively across the enterprise, the Claims Director will play a key role in maintaining relationships, developing talent, and fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and outstanding service. This position is responsible for the performance, coaching, and professional development of team members, ensuring they are equipped to achieve both individual and organizational success.

To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in-office days are Tuesday-Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.
This position is based at Great American's headquarters in Cincinnati.Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities- Responsible for the overall planning, development, direction, and administration of the strategic Claims programs.
- Accountable for providing specialized insights with business leaders to implement strategies that support business goals and drive organizational performance.
- Oversees the strategic oversight of claims investigations to confirm coverage and determine liability, compensability, and damages.
- Offers expert advice to team members on complex claim file management and extends settlement authority following comprehensive reviews.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Generally, a minimum of 10 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling with a strong preference for casualty claims experience.
- Must have a minimum of 8 years leadership experience.
- Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC) or the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
Scope of Job/Qualifications: Typically manages 3 or more direct reports, including managing supervisors / managers. Implements policies, procedures, and strategies under the direction of management. Leads and mentors claims professionals, ensuring they achieve excellence in their roles. Serves as a resource on insurance policy and claims handling procedures. Responsible for identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and service quality. Responsible for performance and coaching of staff and decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management. Ensures new members of the team receive proper training.
