Responsibilities

  • Use ultrasound equipment to produce diagnostic studies as requested by physicians
  • Perform technical procedures to assist in physicians' diagnoses
  • Provide high quality imaging for accurate results
  • Acquire echocardiographic measurements and create preliminary digital reports
  • Review physician orders to ensure appropriateness of procedures
  • Retrieve studies from PACS for physician review
  • Implement infection control processes to ensure patient safety
  • Create a supportive environment that promotes patient safety and education
  • Prepare patients for ultrasound procedures
  • Ensure accuracy of clinical reports and billing information
  • Collaborate in a team-oriented manner to enhance departmental service

Qualifications

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Uses appropriate techniques with ultrasound equipment to supply diagnostic studies based upon physician request
  • Performs a variety of technical procedures to support physician's diagnosis
  • Responsible for providing high quality imaging
  • Appropriately acquire echocardiographic measurements per protocol, create digital preliminary reports for the interpreting physician, and verbally communicate preliminary findings to the interpreting physician
  • Reviews physician order to verify appropriateness for order being performed
  • Retrieve studies from PACS for review
  • Perform appropriate infection control processes
  • Provide an environment of care that supports patient safety
  • Addresses patient educational needs as pertains to requested studies
  • Prepare patients for the study
  • Supports IAC Standards and Guidelines
  • Assures accuracy data for clinical reports, demographics and billing information for physician reports
  • Support team approach and service focus work with colleagues in a "team approach" to encourage a positive and service-oriented image for the department.
Education:
  • High School Diploma/GED Required
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP or other accredited diagnostic ultrasound program required or 5 years of diagnostic ultrasound experience
License/Certification:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required (BLS expiration date must be valid 60 days from the start date)
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Preferred
