DescriptionThe School of Health Professions (SHP) at Stony Brook University invites applicants to apply for the faculty position of Capstone Coordinator in the Department of Physical Therapy - Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT). This is a non-tenure track, 12-month faculty appointment at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor.
The DPT program is delivered on both the Stony Brook University East Campus - Health Sciences Center and on the Southampton Campus. The Capstone Coordinator in the Department of Physical Therapy - Doctor of Physical Therapy Program will be located on the Southampton Campus but will have responsibilities at both the Stony Brook and Southampton Campuses.
The Department is seeking a candidate with expertise in research design and methodologies, statistical analysis, and mentoring faculty and students in research. The Capstone Coordinator position will help facilitate faculty-led, student-driven research capstone projects throughout the curriculum. This position will oversee all aspects of the capstone project from initiation to dissemination. This position will report to the Chairperson of the Department of Physical Therapy and will have responsibilities in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. All candidates should be prepared to advise students, provide service to the program/department, school, university, community and profession, and assist the Chairperson with accreditation efforts, alumni engagement, recruitment and retention, external giving, outreach and other assignments which contribute to program growth on both campuses.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications:Applicants may be either:
- Physical Therapist Applicants
- Earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution (DPT, PhD, DSc, EdD, or equivalent).
- Eligibility for licensure or active licensure to practice physical therapy in New York State.
- Minimum of three (3) years of full-time or full-time equivalent physical therapy practice experience.
- Experience mentoring students, clinicians, or faculty in research.
- Non-Physical Therapist Applicants
- Earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution (PhD, DSc, EdD, or equivalent) in a discipline directly relevant to physical therapy, rehabilitation, movement science, exercise science, biomechanics, health sciences, education, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of full-time or full-time equivalent teaching experience in higher education. Teaching experience may include service as a teaching assistant, primary instructor, or laboratory instructor.
- Experience mentoring students, clinicians, or faculty in research.
Preferred Qualifications:- Physical Therapist Applicants
- Minimum of five (5) years of full-time or full-time equivalent clinical physical therapy practice experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of full-time or full-time equivalent teaching experience in higher education.
- Earned academic doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution (e.g., PhD, EdD, or DSc). Applicants who are ABD (All But Dissertation) or currently enrolled in an academic doctoral program will also be considered.
- All Applicants
- Experience teaching research-related coursework in higher education.
- Experience collaborating on research projects following completion of a terminal degree. This may include serving as a Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Investigator, Statistician, or in other research-related roles.
- Evidence of peer-reviewed publications.
- Evidence of other peer-reviewed scholarly products disseminated within the past five (5) years.
- Completion of a residency and/or fellowship program.
