Overview

JOB PURPOSE

The Capital Procurement Manager is responsible for maximizing value across the development, construction, and operations phases of Pattern Energy projects by leading complex, high-value renewable energy supply and service transactions. This role serves as the commercial lead for major capital equipment and related services throughout the project lifecycle, including development, financing, construction, contract execution, and handoff to operations. The role also acts as a primary interface with suppliers to monitor technology, market trends, pricing, and product options while keeping internal stakeholders informed and aligned.

Key Accountabilities

  • Negotiate and manage high voltage equipment procurement transactions for large-scale wind, solar, storage, and transmission projects.
  • Lead analysis and evaluation of supplier product options and provide recommendations for supplier and product selections.
  • Lead commercial negotiations for power generation, transmission, and related services purchases while coordinating with engineering, development, finance, operations, construction, and technical stakeholders.
  • Guide development strategies related to high voltage equipment, power generation, and transmission procurement from prospecting through financial close.
  • Manage equipment inventory and allocation to support tax qualification strategies, including Production Tax Credit and Investment Tax Credit requirements, and lead third-party sales or disposals as needed.
  • Serve as the primary supplier interface for high voltage, wind, solar, storage, transmission, and other generation equipment.
  • Monitor new technology, product development, market trends, pricing, and supply-demand conditions to inform internal decision-making.
  • Manage RFP processes for power generation and transmission equipment and services when applicable.
  • Lead supplier relationship management programs for key suppliers by integrating operations, procurement, and supply chain perspectives.
  • Integrate procurement and vendor input into development and financing activities, including equipment configuration, technical diligence, project suitability, and alignment of procurement contracts with development and construction requirements.
  • Partner with Capital Procurement Contract Managers to support effective contract execution by construction and operations teams.
  • Facilitate implementation and management of high voltage, power generation, and transmission equipment contracts.
  • Develop and support process improvements for contract management, compliance, milestone tracking, and stakeholder communication.
  • Support operations by interpreting, enforcing, amending, or resolving disputes under equipment supplier service contracts and advising on market terms for aftermarket service contracts.
  • Stay current on global, domestic, and regional policy changes and market factors that may create opportunities or obstacles for Pattern Energy, and report findings through appropriate channels.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, engineering, accounting, finance, or a related field required.
  • MBA or advanced degree in supply chain or a related discipline preferred.

Required Work Experience

  • Six to eight years of related experience required, preferably in renewable energy development, high voltage procurement, power generation commercial operations, or the broader energy industry.
  • Experience negotiating, managing, and commercially approving major capital equipment contracts, supplier invoices, and related commercial terms preferred.
  • Experience working with suppliers, EPC contractors, project partners, development teams, financing teams, construction teams, and operations stakeholders preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to read, write, interpret, and negotiate contracts.
  • Strong financial analysis skills, including price forecasting, reporting, and capital budgeting.
  • Ability to prioritize and resolve complex issues under demanding schedule constraints while maintaining strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering and construction concepts and familiarity with power generation and energy markets in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
  • Familiarity with safe harbor and beginning-of-construction tax qualification strategies, high voltage EPC contractor procurement, and export/import requirements for equipment and materials preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Copilot, and other typical business software.
  • Some travel required.

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $103,000 - $138,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
