POSITION SUMMARY:

The Calibration Supervisor is responsible for managing the MSD Calibration and Preventative Maintenance Program. This position will directly supervise calibration technicians and ensure employee proficiency.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and participate in calibration and calibration coordination activities.
    • Coordinate with validation and metrology contractors to schedule recurrent calibration activities and certifications as a Quality representative.
    • Schedule and coordinate internal equipment calibrations and preventative maintenance (PM) with directly responsible individuals (DRIs).
    • Track off-site equipment status and equipment repairs.
  • Supervise calibration technicians responsible for performing equipment calibration, PM activities, and pipette calibration.
  • Maintain the calibration database and records of PM, certification, and calibration activities following good documentation practices (GDP) and retention procedures.
  • Assign new equipment identification and execute equipment transfers, red-tag and retirement requests.
  • Monitor the controlled temperature units (CTU) via the building management system (BMS), ensure timely notification of excursions to DRIs, and assist with failure investigations.
  • Participate in validation risk assessments related to specific projects and facilities.
  • Assist in identifying and developing work processes to improve quality and efficiency of the calibration database.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement that values commitment to quality.
  • Perform additional duties which may vary depending upon departmental requirements


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial laboratory, biotechnology or related field is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a team lead is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in scientific discipline is preferred.
  • Experience with pipette calibrations per ISO 8655 is highly preferred
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and 13485 is preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Basic knowledge of laboratory terminology, proper lab equipment handling, and safe work practices.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and familiarity with MS Office tools.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of effectively communicating issues which impact timelines and quality.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills in an environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit or stand for long periods. The individual is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • This position requires frequent travel between MSD campuses.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is primarily performed in a standard office environment, and in a standard biology laboratory environment, BSL-1, or BSL-2 area as needed.


COMPENSATION SUMMARY

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $78,100 to $116,200. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
