Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY

Plans, coordinates, manages, and directs the operations and activities of the Marana Unified School District's Transportation Department; plans and develops route schedules; administers the fleet maintenance function; oversees driver training programs; responds to transportation inquiries and concerns; and supervises assigned personnel.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees and coordinates departmental operations including administration, dispatch, fleet maintenance, and driver training programs
  • Establishes and leads a safety program that prioritizes operational safety for all department personnel
  • Ensures the delivery of quality student transportation services throughout the District in accordance with applicable Federal and State regulations and safety standards
  • With the Assistant Superintendent of Operations, develops and implements departmental policies and procedures; implements changes necessary to improve customer service and operational efficiency
  • With the Assistant Superintendent of Operations, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; ensures staff compliance with departmental policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and safety practices
  • Oversees and administers the District's Driver Training Program; ensures Bus Drivers maintain mandatory certification requirements
  • Supervises the Department's fleet maintenance activities including coordinating bus safety inspections and liaising with outside service providers
  • Directs the planning and testing of alternative route schedules, dispatch systems, and/or other departmental technology
  • Responds to transportation related inquiries and concerns from parents, drivers, attendants, mechanics, dispatchers, and/or other District personnel
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the departmental budget; monitors and authorizes expenditures; prepares equipment specifications and tracks open purchase orders
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of departmental records, reports, and documentation, and ensures State reports to ADE are on time and accurate
  • Provide input and assistance in determining school attendance boundaries and bell times as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of transportation administration.
  • Student transportation routing and dispatch principles.
  • Arizona Minimum Standards for School Bus Operation.
  • Vehicle maintenance programs and administration processes.

Required Knowledge of (continued):

  • Processes for preparing and administering budgets.
  • Supervisory principles, practices, and methods.

Required Skill in:

  • Directing and coordinating the District's Transportation Department operations.
  • Conducting frequent safety briefings and coordinating corrective measures where needed
  • Ensuring the delivery of quality transportation services to District students.
  • Monitoring and maintaining compliance with transportation regulations and standards.
  • Overseeing fleet maintenance and driver training programs.
  • Administering budgets and monitoring expenditure.
  • Supervising, leading, and delegating tasks and authority.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field, and five years experience directing student transportation operations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License.
  • Obtain and maintain a Class B CDL and an Arizona School Bus Driver Certification (Preferred)

Salary:
$77,935.00-$84,361.00

***12 Month Contracted Exempt Position
