Byproduct Manager

Department: Kodiak Processing

Compensation: $90,879 - $120,000 / year

Description

Summary:

The Byproduct Manager plans, organizes, and controls an assigned line of products with the goal of developing a growth centered product portfolio while expanding margins. This role would be responsible for all Roe, Milt and secondary products such as bait, skins, trim. This includes, but is not limited to, planning, inventory management, pricing, determining product placement, and incentive plans to optimize profit and meet growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participates in overall product strategy, research and development, and manufacturing for new and current products.
  • Assist Director with managing budget and product P&L. Analyzes gross margin reports, current volume and profit for assigned categories.
  • Provides analysis on performance vs budget to identify customers or product forms where improvement and/or focus is required.
  • Implement domestic pricing for various sales channels and communicate pricing/allowances to regional sales managers.
  • Act as the technical product authority with external customers, providing guided customer solutioning and positioning future capabilities as strategic selling points when aligned with customer needs.
  • Implements business simplification, assessing active and inactive products, and working to consolidate items.
  • Supports new product development objectives by aligning R&D and operations, including project prioritization, attending plant tests, and first production runs (as travel allows).
  • Drives sales with the commercial group by informing sales managers of product availability and new opportunities. Travels as needed to represent Pacific Seafood as a subject matter expert.
  • Coordinates with procurement, operations, and FSQA groups on packaging development/new projects, supporting the critical goal of modernization
  • Regularly works onsite to build strong team connections, collaborate across functions, and solve problems in real time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Travels up to 3 months of the year or as needed to support SE Alaska and Ikura.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provides support to sales and FSQA team where issues surrounding product quality or questions related to product attributes require technical expertise.
  • Collaborates with marketing to conduct market research. Identifies and tracks market trends to make recommendations to stay ahead of the curve on new product development, including trends in new packaging concepts/technology.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary to support the overall goals and objectives of the position.

What you bring to Pacific Seafood

Required:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in product management or related field.
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience engaging with sales/commercial groups regarding availability, price, and other information required by customers.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%, in support of Value-Added operations and the US Value-Added sales team. May include international travel.

Preferred:
  • Seafood industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Highly detail-oriented, with strong analytical critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to analyze, organize, and simplify complex problems to develop practical solutions.
  • Strong understanding of project management practices
  • Ability to collaborate with a wide variety of functional areas such as sales, engineering, marketing, research, and development, purchasing, manufacturing, and operations to develop and provide product definitions responsive to customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Has a strong code of ethics, representing the organization inside and outside of the workplace.

This role requires a proactive leader who can manage complex maintenance operations while driving efficiency and safety improvements.
