About the roleThe Buyer is a key member of Aalo Atomics' Supply Chain team, responsible for managing procurement of components, equipment and services critical to our reactor development program. You will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance, and Program Management to convert purchasing requests into purchase orders (POs), and be the main point of contact with suppliers for all purchase order related issues. This role requires someone who is highly organized, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities, and skilled at building strong relationships both internally and externally.
What you'll do- Own the full purchase order lifecycle - from purchase request through PO receipt.
- Issue purchase requests, analyze quotes, negotiate terms, convert POs, send to suppliers.
- Coordinate logistics with Aalo logistics partners and suppliers
- Ensure shipments come with necessary paperwork for a frictionless receipt process.
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for a portfolio of suppliers - managing open orders on a daily/weekly basis, resolving discrepancies, and driving continuous improvement.
- Monitor supplier performance against commitments; escalate risks proactively and implement corrective action plans as needed.
- Maintain accurate data in the ERP/MRP system - onboard new suppliers, and keep open orders, expected receipt dates, lead times, and commercial terms current.
- Collaborate with Finance and Accounts Payable to ensure on-time payment to suppliers and resolve invoice issues.
- Contribute to the development of Supply Chain processes, templates, and tools as the team scales.
- Follow established procurement procedures to satisfy technical specifications and nuclear quality requirements.
Qualifications- 5+ years of experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in a manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or hardware-development environment.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, or other technical teams to understand requirements.
- Proven track record of managing open orders, resolving issues, and communicating with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar); ability to maintain accurate planning data and generate useful reporting.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple open orders and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills; able to represent the company effectively in supplier-facing interactions.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
Nice to Have- Experience in a startup or early-stage hardware company where processes are still being built.
- Exposure to nuclear, energy, or highly regulated industries.
- APICS CPIM or CSCP certification, or working toward one.
- Experience with contract management and supplier agreement execution.
