Job SummaryWith minimal supervision, the IT business systems analyst acts as a liaison between one or more business functions or departments, including but not limited to, business development, marketing, proposal management, contracts, program management, aftermarket, flight operations / flight testing, manufacturing, quality, logistics, finance, accounting, procurement, human resources, payroll, and resources from various information technology disciplines (e.g. infrastructure, operations, cybersecurity, applications, development, and continuous improvement) to ensure the four critical pillars of business analyses are accomplished effectively and efficiently: (1) IT Projects, (2) Applications & Systems Enhancements, (3) Break-fixes, and (4) Business Process Support, to provide business process and technology support that enables seamless business operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Understand general-to-specific business processes of assigned business functions and departments.
- Understand the breadth of applications supporting the assigned business functions and departments.
- Analyze various requests from the business (under the four pillars of business analyses) for their validity, alignment with the overall business process and systems landscape, business criticality, rough estimates on return-on-investment, and best-practice solution options.
- Author as-is business process diagrams (e.g. swimlane flow) as part of business process analysis and IT change request interpretation.
- Author solution proposal documents (e.g. presentations, spreadsheets, narratives, and to-be process diagrams) while taking into consideration the cost, feasibility, level of effort, and compliance.
- Author functional specification document for the technical development team.
- Perform unit testing (functional acceptance testing) of solutions developed by either the functional analyst and/or the technical development team.
- Coordinate and facilitate user acceptance testing of application changes (associated with one or more of the 4 pillars) for approval to deploy the changes to production environment.
- Understand the general or standard SDLC process (software development lifecycle) as well as be willing to learn General Atomics specific SDLC process including the application change request/approval process flow using ServiceNow system.
- Understand general IT project management framework at a high level (waterfall, agile, or similar), and be able to manage small to mid-size IT projects with guidance from leadership, IT business operations, project management office, and IT finance.
- Understand system configuration foundation and be able to learn configuration behaviors of various applications (e.g. SAP, AutoTime, ServiceNow and SaaS systems with similar configuration settings).
- Be able to distinguish between valid requirements and invalid requirements, as well as facilitate shaping invalid requirements into valid requirements.
- Stay current on information systems and information technology trends and be able to identify the best option for the situation taking into consideration short/mid/long term pros and cons.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Additional functions and other duties as assigned or required.
- 10%-20% travel may be required, mostly between San Diego campuses.
Job Qualifications- Typically requires a bachelors degree in information technology or a related discipline and fifteen or more years of progressive professional experience in business systems analysis. May substitute equivalent working experience in the field in lieu of education.
- 10+ years of general IT business analysis experience in engineering, manufacturing, and distribution companies with mid-to-large scale ERP (preferably SAP), Service Management (preferably ServiceNow).
- (Optional but desirable) 5+ years of experience in Service Management systems (ie ServiceNow) is a plus.
- (Optional but desirable) 3+ years of experience in Timekeeping systems configuration or other Custom Applications and/or development experience is a plus.
- (Optional but desirable) 3+ years of experience in various SaaS applications configuration is a plus.
- 5+ years of IT business analysis experience within Aerospace & Defense industry is a plus.
- 3+ years of Project Management experience is a plus.
- Industry knowledge and IT experience in Human Resources, Timekeeping, and Payroll processes and solutions is highly desirable.
- Must be detail-oriented, process-driven, customer-focused, and be able to work professionally in a team environment, while taking initiatives and not be afraid to make mistakes and learn from them.
- Strong leadership potential in IT project management, resource management, and value stream customer relationship management are strongly preferred.
