Business Modernization - OCM Communications Specialist

Reporting To:

Onsite – Buffalo, NY

The OCM Modernization Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering clear, timely, and impactful communications in support of the ERP/SAP modernization. This role plays a critical part in driving awareness, understanding, and adoption by ensuring change messages are aligned, credible, and tailored to impacted stakeholder groups across a multi-year, phased S/4HANA implementation.

Focused on the “voice of the modernization” the Communications Specialist translates complex program activity into meaningful, audience appropriate messaging that builds confidence, reinforces leadership alignment, and supports business readiness. Working closely with the OCM Modernization team, Program Management, Business Leaders, IT, and Corporate Communications, this role embeds communication discipline into every phase of the SAP program lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

Change Communications Strategy & Execution
  • Support the development and execution of the SAP change communications strategy aligned to program milestones and deployment waves.

  • Translate SAP program objectives, progress, impacts, and changes into clear, actionable messaging for diverse audiences.

  • Develop communication plans outlining key messages, timing, channels, and target audiences.

  • Ensure communication activities are tightly integrated with overall OCM and program plans.


Content Development & Delivery
  • Create and maintain high-quality communication materials including emails, presentations, intranet content, FAQs, newsletters, and change updates.

  • Tailor messaging to different stakeholder groups, including executives, people managers, end users, and support teams.

  • Reinforce leadership messages and ensure consistency across all SAP-related communications.

  • Support messaging to rebuild trust and confidence following prior ERP initiatives through transparency and clarity.


Stakeholder & Leadership Alignment
  • Partner with business leaders, change leads, and program leadership to ensure communications accurately reflect priorities, decisions, and impacts.

  • Support leaders and people managers with communication toolkits, talking points, and readiness materials.

  • Maintain strong alignment with Corporate Communications to ensure consistency with enterprise messaging standards.


Program Integration & Governance
  • Act as an embedded member of the SAP OCM and program team, participating in planning forums, milestone reviews, and readiness discussions.

  • Coordinate communication timing with key program events such as design completion, testing, cutover, and go-live.

  • Track communication execution and adjust messaging based on feedback, readiness indicators, and adoption risks.


Adoption & Readiness Support
  • Support change readiness efforts by reinforcing key behaviors, benefits, and new ways of working through targeted communications.

  • Assist with go-live and post–go-live communications, including hyper-care messaging and stabilization updates.

  • Ensure communications support sustainment and reinforcement of SAP-related changes over time.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in change communications, corporate communications, or modernization communications.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience supporting ERP or SAP modernization initiatives preferred.

  • Strong understanding of organizational change management principles and the role of communication in driving adoption.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to simplify complex topics.

  • Proven ability to tailor messages for multiple audiences and communication channels.

  • Strong collaboration skills and experience working in cross-functional, matrixed environments.

  • Proficiency with common communication tools and platforms (e.g., SharePoint, intranet tools, PowerPoint, email campaigns).

    Salary Range Transparency:

    Buffalo, NY $90,000.00–$140,000.00 Annually

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
