Full Job Description
Business Intelligence Engineer

Department: Technology

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Chicago, IL

Description

Find the gaps. Build the data. Power the decisions.

The mission is simple: give every part of the business the data it needs to make sharper decisions, faster. As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you'll build and maintain the reporting systems and data infrastructure our trading operations run on - reliable data sources, well-built pipelines, and insights people can act on.

This is a high-ownership role in a rapidly growing execution business. You won't just inherit dashboards - you'll define them. Working with sales, traders, engineers, and researchers, you'll establish real performance benchmarks across our entire algo suite, work that will directly shape how we sell and improve them.

If you want the autonomy to build a data function from the ground up and the ownership to shape how it evolves as the business scales - we want to talk to you.

What You'll Do
• Build the datasets, dashboards, and reporting infrastructure that support trading operations - starting with performance benchmarks across our entire algo suite
• Analyze transaction costs, slippage, and fill quality across strategies and venues
• Develop and manage SQL-based data pipelines that support reporting and analytics at scale
• Partner with traders, sales, engineers, and researchers to define what data should exist
• Own data integrity across internal tools and reporting environments, auditing and validating source data
• Monitor system behavior and flag anomalies, inconsistencies, or data quality issues before they become problems
• Maintain and document system settings and configuration changes tied to reporting

What We're Looking For
• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or Accounting)
• Familiarity with electronic trading or market microstructure, and experience working with financial datasets
• Proficient in SQL, with experience working with large, complex datasets
• Strong hands-on experience building dashboards and reports in Tableau (or a comparable BI tool)
• Familiarity with Python for data analysis or scripting
• Sharp analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• A self-starter who's energized by building things from scratch

Benefits:
  • Highly competitive salary & bonus opportunity
  • Generous paid time off and flexible scheduling
  • 100% coverage of medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits for single coverage
  • Generous Paid Parental Leave
  • Retirement Plans: 401K and Roth 401K
  • Profit sharing plan
  • Long- and short-term disability

Additional Perks:
  • Free breakfast and lunch from our in-house kitchen with rotating menus (including snacks!)
  • On-site gym with a subsidized membership
  • Frequent company outings
  • Opportunity to give back to organizations that help individuals in need in the Chicagoland area

Professional Development:
  • In-house education team - classes and resources are offered for continuous learning opportunities
  • Mentorship Program through your first six months of employment

The base compensation range for this role is approximately $100,000-$125,000 contingent on experience. Wolverine Execution Service's total compensation model includes base salary and an annual discretionary bonus.
