Full Job Description
A first line of defense risk professional leading a team within a Consumer and Small Business Banking governance business unit. Serves as a subject matter expert responsible for effectively and proactively identifying, mitigating and managing risks within an assigned line of business. This position will be responsible for leading a team of business governance professionals to support the execution of risk programs, as well as oversight of existing and emerging risks. Responsible for supporting strong risk management practices in alignment with the firm’s risk appetite and the assigned business unit’s strategic & financial plan. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Engage in risk management activities within Consumer and Small Business, proactively identifying existing and emerging risks, evaluating the significance of the risks, and providing support in managing acceptance or mitigation of the identified risks. Work collaboratively with aligned GCO Risk Program to ensure alignment with firm’s risk appetite. 2. Lead a team of business governance teammates responsible for executing the responsibilities of various operations and enterprise risk programs in accordance with the program requirements (Ie: Risk control self-assessments, issues management). 3. In collaboration with business line leadership, engage in the identifying, assessing, controlling, mitigating, and communicating risks associated with business processes and decisions. Provide oversight and governance of the assigned business unit regarding its control environment in conjunction with GCO requirements. 4. Maintain oversight of the business Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs). 5. Provide risk management support and oversight for change activities (both business and regulatory change). 6. Provide oversight and support for open risk, audit, and regulatory issues. Evaluate the root cause, the corrective action plans and work with business partners and GCO advisor team to successfully implement and document remediation. 7. Support the business and the GCO governance & reporting team for all audit and regulatory exam engagements. 8. Communicate with business unit’s leadership regarding activities, trends, and events pertaining to risk, regulatory, audit and loan review activities. Promote various risk initiatives and their supporting metrics. 9. Coach and develop business governance teammates. QUALIFICATIONS Required Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field, or equivalent education and related training 2. 10+ years of progressive experience in a financial institution with emphasis on risk management or equivalent work experience and training 3. Advancednowledge of industry-related regulatory requirements. 4. Knowledge of operational and other non-financial risks. 5. Ability and willingness to learn and adapt to change and competing priorities 6. Strong written and verbal skills 7. Solid problem solving skills in complex environments; Ability to influence change 8. Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to operate without close supervision on day-to-day decisions; Capable of handling multiple projects concurrently 9. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products 10. Ability to travel, occasionally overnight Preferred Qualifications: 1. Master’s degree in Finance or Business, or equivalent education and related training. 2. Consulting experience at a corporate level 3. Knowledge of financial, accounting, and reporting systems 4. Professional designation related to risk management or field of assigned business unit(s) 5. Consumer and small business banking experience.
