DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Location: Texas-based; regular travel to customers, properties, and industry events throughout Texas, with occasional travel beyond the state

Employment type: Full-time, exempt

Reports to: Sales & Marketing Director

ABOUT THE ROLE

Matrix Construction Services is looking for an experienced business development professional to grow existing customer relationships and develop new business across the multifamily industry.

This is a market-facing, individual-contributor role. You will spend your time building relationships, identifying customer needs, creating opportunities and working with Matrix teams to turn those opportunities into profitable work. You will also help expand the services our existing customers use, with a particular focus on interior renovations.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable opening doors and equally comfortable doing the work that comes afterward: researching accounts, asking good questions, following up, keeping Salesforce current and moving opportunities forward.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Grow existing accounts by learning our customers' businesses, relationships, current projects and upcoming capital needs.
• Build relationships with owners, operators, construction leaders, asset managers, regional teams and property personnel.
• Turn customer conversations into real opportunities, including planning meetings, site walks, budget requests, scopes and proposals.
• Develop new accounts through referrals, industry relationships, market intelligence, targeted outreach and prospecting.
• Identify opportunities to introduce customers to additional Matrix services, particularly interior renovations.
• Track property transactions, ownership changes and other market activity that may create opportunities for Matrix.
• Develop productive relationships with vendors, manufacturers, distributors, consultants, engineers and other industry partners who can provide introductions, information and opportunities.
• Qualify opportunities based on customer need, timing, decision-making authority, competition, Matrix's capabilities and our likelihood of winning the work.
• Maintain accurate account, opportunity and next-step information in Salesforce.
• Work closely with account managers, estimating, operations and business-unit leaders to pursue the right opportunities without disrupting established customer relationships.
• Use good judgment about where Matrix should invest its time and resources and when an opportunity is not a good fit.

YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE WHEN...
• Existing customers are buying more of Matrix's services.
• We are building relationships with the right new customers.
• Matrix is getting involved earlier in projects and has a stronger position when opportunities reach the proposal stage.
• Interior-renovation opportunities and bookings are growing across our customer base.
• Your industry relationships and market knowledge are producing introductions, customer meetings, proposals and revenue.
• Opportunities are well qualified, Salesforce is current and the pipeline reflects business we have a realistic chance of winning.

HOW WE WORK

At Matrix, relationships matter, but results matter too. We value people who are curious, direct, dependable and willing to do the work themselves.

The right person for this role listens well, asks for the business, follows through on commitments and shares information and credit with the team. You should be comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with the people responsible for estimating, delivering and managing our work.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This role includes competitive pay with a meaningful performance-based incentive opportunity. Final compensation will reflect the candidate's experience, relevant market access, and demonstrated track record.
• Paid time off
• Paid holidays
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance
• Employee Assistance Program
• 401(k) with company match
• Monthly phone and vehicle allowance
