THE OPPORTUNITY
Silvus is seeking a Business Development Engineer, US Army to join the Applications Engineering team. This role is structured for early- to mid-career candidates seeking to bridge technical radio frequency capabilities with Army requirements and emerging trends.
Reporting to the Director of Applications Engineering, you will work alongside Engineering and Business Development teams to support US Army acquisition stakeholders. In this position, you will assist in demonstrating the technical capabilities, interoperability, and field-readiness of our StreamCaster MANET radio portfolio across ground, airborne, and uncrewed environments. This role requires up to 50% travel for field tests, customer meetings, and demonstrations, with a 100% remote working option depending on location.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in analyzing US Army operational priorities (e.g., Capability Sets, Mission Command network design goals) and mapping field requirements to tactical radio solutions.
- Support technical planning, network configuration, and live-on-the-air execution of field trials, modernizations, and user evaluations.
- Collaborate with the Applications Engineering team to leverage continuous testing and competitive benchmarking data, helping verify that proposed solution architectures are technically sound.
- Maintain close alignment with the Business Development team to support their ongoing technical needs and align work with established strategic priorities.
- Assist in building and presenting technical demonstrations tailored to tactical edge networking needs.
- Contribute technical input and review support for RFI/RFP proposal responses.
- Perform market research to identify potential integrations with industry partners and test end-to-end network architectures.
- Assist Business Development in engaging with technical stakeholders across Army program offices, Science and Technology (S&T) leads, Army Futures Command, and research centers.
- Serve as an internal voice for the Soldier by gathering field feedback and operational requirements, helping translate them into product roadmap inputs, and tracking engineering progress against operational needs.
- Perform other related duties of which the above are representative.
- Travel Requirement – 50%; frequent travel for meetings, events, and demonstrations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related C5ISR field with 2–5 years of demonstrated experience in systems engineering, technical business development, or defense technology roles; OR High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years of relevant technical or defense experience.
- Exposure to or working knowledge of Software-Defined Radios (SDRs), IP-based routing protocols, or tactical communication systems.
- Basic familiarity with RF test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers and signal generators.
- Security Clearance: Active U.S. Government SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain one within 15 months of hire.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
- All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Basic understanding of US Army tactical procurement pathways, network modernization priorities outlined by Army Futures Command, or unmanned systems (UGV/UAV).
- Practical experience with TCP/IP networking, Linux environments, or scripting languages (e.g., Python, C++) for test automation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain technical concepts effectively.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote team setting.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Conferences, technical symposiums, and trade shows.
- Outdoor environment for large-scale field trials and tactical demonstrations.
- Occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens while performing tests or demonstrations in rugged field environments.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following:
- Lift equipment up to 50 lbs. for the set-up of complex tactical network demonstrations and testing.
COMPENSATION: $100,000 - $140,000 / annually
