Job Summary
As Director of Business Development, you will join our Business Development team! In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Business Development and will have the opportunity to lead across a portfolio of power development projects, supports and develop our project development team, and help shape new growth opportunities for ContourGlobal. Key Responsibilities:
• Provide portfolio-level leadership across multiple power development projects, maintaining a clear understanding of project strategies, critical paths, key risks, priorities, and resource requirements.
• Support Development Managers in owning and advancing their projects, providing senior judgment, coaching, and escalation support while maintaining clear accountability at the project level.
• Drive portfolio prioritization and resource allocation, working with Development Managers and cross-functional leaders to determine where organizational attention and resources are most needed based on project value, development maturity, risk, critical path, and strategic importance.
• Oversee development portfolio budgets and resource requirements, working with Development Managers to ensure development spend is appropriately prioritized, forecasted, and aligned with project milestones, risks, and value-creation opportunities.
• Develop and mentor Development Managers and Associates, creating opportunities for team members to take on increasing levels of ownership, responsibility, and external relationship management as they demonstrate readiness.
• Provide senior-level support on complex development matters, including real estate and site control, permitting, interconnection, stakeholder engagement, commercial matters, project economics, and pre-construction and execution planning.
• Support the stewardship of key external relationships, including landowners, counties and local governments, neighbors, communities, consultants, counterparties, and other project stakeholders, stepping in where senior engagement can materially improve an outcome or protect an important relationship.
• Enable effective cross-functional execution across the portfolio, helping Development Managers resolve competing priorities, resource constraints, and escalated issues involving Development Services, Engineering, Interconnection, Commercial, Finance, Legal, Construction, and other functions.
• Synthesize portfolio status for senior leadership, clearly communicating material risks, opportunities, tradeoffs, resource needs, and decisions requiring leadership attention.
• Contribute to development strategy and opportunity scouting, helping identify and evaluate opportunities that align with ContourGlobal's growth objectives and capabilities.
• Support M&A and project opportunity evaluation, pressure-testing seller and developer assumptions related to development maturity, schedule, land, permitting, interconnection, stakeholder considerations, project economics, execution risk, and required resources.
• Support investment and portfolio decision-making, ensuring development risks, assumptions, resource requirements, mitigation strategies, and value-creation opportunities are clearly understood and appropriately reflected in investment recommendations and senior leadership decisions.
• Maintain awareness of market, regulatory, policy, interconnection, and competitive developments and translate relevant changes into portfolio strategy, project priorities, and development decisions.
• Support the integration of newly originated or acquired projects into the development portfolio, helping establish clear ownership, priorities, development plans, and resource requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement across the Development organization by identifying lessons and recurring challenges across projects and translating them into stronger processes, tools, standards, and ways of working.
Qualifications and Skills:
Your profile is a natural match if you have:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, finance, economics, environmental studies, law, or another relevant field; equivalent relevant professional experience will also be considered.
• Experience: 5-10 years of relevant experience in power, renewable energy, energy infrastructure, or related project development, including demonstrated experience advancing complex utility-scale projects and supporting or leading teams of developers.
• Development expertise: Direct experience across several core development disciplines, which may include real estate and site control, permitting, interconnection, governmental and community engagement, commercial development, project economics, engineering, pre-construction, and transaction diligence.
• Portfolio leadership: Demonstrated ability to operate across multiple complex projects, identify critical risks and priorities, and effectively allocate attention and resources across a portfolio.
• People leadership: Experience developing, coaching, and supporting project developers or other professionals and a demonstrated ability to build capability in others without unnecessarily taking over their responsibilities.
• Judgment: Strong commercial and development judgment, including the ability to make decisions and recommendations in situations involving ambiguity, incomplete information, competing priorities, and complex tradeoffs.
• Relationship management: Demonstrated ability to build and steward productive relationships with landowners, communities, governmental entities, counterparties, consultants, and internal cross-functional partners.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex project information and communicate key issues, alternatives, and recommendations effectively to senior leadership.
• Travel requirements: Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites and communities and for meetings with project stakeholders as required.
What drives your application forward:
• Experience developing utility-scale power generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage, or other energy infrastructure projects in the United States.
• Experience leading or overseeing a portfolio of development-stage projects across multiple markets, technologies, or stages of maturity.
• Experience evaluating development-stage acquisitions and M&A opportunities, including development-focused due diligence and integration of acquired projects.
• Working knowledge of U.S. power markets, interconnection processes, permitting frameworks, land acquisition, and local stakeholder engagement, with experience across one or more major U.S. power markets.
• Demonstrated ability to develop people and build high-performing teams, creating clear ownership and accountability while coaching others to take on increasing levels of responsibility.
