THE ROLE:As a
Building Inspector, you will play a critical role in supporting safe, high-quality construction and development within the City of Pasco by conducting field inspections to ensure compliance with applicable building, fire, mechanical, plumbing, energy, accessibility, and municipal codes.
This position conducts field inspections of structures during construction, reviews construction plans and specifications, identifies discrepancies or code-related concerns, and issues correction or stop work notices when code violations are observed. The Building Inspector also provides technical interpretation to contractors and others regarding building plan review, code application, and inspection activities.
The ideal candidate will have experience with building construction and building codes, strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to enforce regulations fairly, firmly, and factually. This role requires clear communication, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively with developers, contractors, architects, engineers, owners, suppliers, trade personnel, City staff, and members of the public to support safe and compliant construction practices.

- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Two (2) years of experience with both building construction and building code.
- Valid Washington State driver license.
- ICC Building Inspector certification at the time of hire or prior to completion of probationary period required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Previous experience in local government.
- Experience conducting residential, commercial, or industrial building inspections.
- Experience interpreting and applying building, fire, mechanical, plumbing, energy, accessibility, and municipal codes.
- Experience reading and interpreting building plans, specifications, and blueprints.
- Strong communication, customer service, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with contractors, developers, design professionals, City staff, and the public.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.

SAFETY/WORK CONDITIONS:- Work is primarily performed outside in the field and in the office.
- Environment: Duties are performed in varying weather conditions.
- Physical: Frequently ascends and descends ladders, moves about construction sites, and operates equipment to perform building inspection duties.
- Hazards: Physical hazards may include heavy equipment, traffic, air pollution, and chemicals.
- This position is subject to 24-hour call back for emergency conditions and may be required to perform inspections during late nights, early mornings, weekends, or during events where large groups of people are present.
