Building Engineer
Location: Jersey City, NJ
The Building Engineer will oversee all mechanical / electrical operations, installation, and maintenance of equipment, systems, and facilities, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. This role is hands-on and supervisory, supporting a high standard of performance across the property.

Responsibilities of the Building Engineer:
  • Supervise all engineering operations and mechanical & electrical maintenance for a portfolio of high-rise apartment buildings.
  • Plan, implement, and manage all mechanical / electrical operations, maintenance, communications, energy management, and manpower development programs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair all mechanical systems, respond promptly to service requests, and report any potential safety hazards or liability concerns.
  • Manage municipal-mandated inspections (fire/life safety, backflow, elevators, etc.).
  • Oversee facility utilities, including gas, electric, sewer, water, phone, and CATV.
  • Direct maintenance programs related to both the interior and exterior condition and appearance of the properties.
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance programs for all systems, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire/life safety, generators, security, access control, BMS, and vertical transportation.
  • Ensure all site-specific documentation, inspections, and reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Administer inventory control programs and manage the purchasing of parts and supplies.
  • Establish and maintain programs to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and company standards.
  • Lead and develop a team through effective communication, supervision, training, and scheduling to ensure work is completed efficiently and within budget.
  • Maintain staffing schedules to ensure 24/7 emergency coverage, and support ongoing skill development and learning initiatives for assigned personnel.

Requirements for the Building Engineer:
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in the HVAC trade industry.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems in the industry.
  • Strong knowledge of local and national mechanical / electrical codes.
  • Must hold all required city, state, and federal licenses and certifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Availability to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Basic plumbing and piping skills, with working knowledge of compressors and air systems.
