Qualifications:

Position Summary:

The building administrator of Ypsilanti International Elementary School (YIES) serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school, with a focused responsibility for implementing and maintaining the International Baccalaureate in a K-5 environment. The administrator fosters a culture of inquiry, international-mindedness, and whole-child development that is aligned with IB philosophy. This role requires a visionary and collaborative leader who is committed to equity, academic excellence, and building a safe, inclusive school community.

Position Responsibilities:

Leadership
  • Lead through the leveraging of the district systems and routines, while maintaining a drive for results by demonstrating persistence, directness, and the ability to monitor and plan ahead.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all scholars and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
  • Cast a vision of and monitor for instruction and strategies that address the wide range of learning, behavioral, and communication styles of the scholar population.
  • Manage, evaluate, and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, and goals of the district, including instructional programs, extracurricular activities, and discipline systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, board policies, and civil regulations.
  • Establish the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for scholars consistent with the district's philosophy, and mission.

Staffing
  • Leverage and monitor the talent management district system to recruit, hire, assign, and evaluate the instructional talent required to impact scholar and teacher performance.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with scholars, parents, and staff.
  • Maintain visibility with scholars, teachers, parents, and the district.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the district's vision for high-quality, subject-specific instruction and the capacity to coach teachers for growth in instructional routines.

Scholars
  • Supervise fairly and consistently, with effective discipline and attendance systems with high standards, consistent with the district's philosophy, values, and mission.
  • Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages scholars to take responsibility for their behavior.
  • File all required reports regarding violence, vandalism, attendance, and discipline matters.
  • Establish a professional rapport with scholars and staff to create a respectful work environment.

Instructional Practices
  • Administer a system of ongoing data collection and analysis through collaborative routines to inform a continuously responsive and adaptive system of tiered instruction.
  • Provide ongoing professional development focused on IB curriculum, culturally responsive practices, and instructional excellence.
  • Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes regularly to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning, child growth, and development.

Community
  • Initiate and maintain consistent communication with parents, guardians, community members, and community partners, building on and leveraging their strengths as co-educators.

Fiscal Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain efficient procedures and effective controls for the expenditure of school funds in accordance with the adopted budget, subject to the direction and approval of the district.
