Full Job Description
As a Builder, you are core to the development at Xome. You are comfortable navigating multiple layers, environments, and methodologies of software development, and working across teams, technologies, and business products. The role designs, develops, deploys, and operates modern cloud-native applications across the full technology stack - user interfaces, APIs, data platforms, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and production support.

A successful Builder at any level will be able to leverage AI-native development practices and tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to accelerate delivery, applying strong technical fundamentals, sound architectural thinking, and the judgment to solve complex problems with the right approach - whether that is code, automation, cloud platforms, data, or AI.

Builders are engaged to work in agile development teams, product development pods, operational reliability research and incident resolution SWAT teams, and can also work autonomously outside of a virtual team. Builders are the "get it done" roles with the skillset, experience, mindset, know-how, and intuition to actively dig-in, collaboratively engage, curiously discover, maturely solution, expertly develop, and deliver. You are given the problems to solve that other engineers simply do not have the skills or breadth of experience to adequately deal with, and maintain quality and speed in your work.

About the role

Strategy
  • Owns the technical approach and delivery of individual features or services end-to-end within an established architecture, below a full capability or domain.
  • Contributes to technical design decisions for individual features or services within an existing architecture.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities within own area of work and raises them to senior team members.

Technology & Engineering
  • Design, build, test, deploy, and support individual features, services, or integrations with moderate guidance.
  • Develops UIs and backend services for defined requirements; hands-on across the stack sufficient to work independently within an established architecture; begins working with cloud-native services (Azure and/or AWS), containerized workloads, and relational/NoSQL data access, with guidance.
  • Designs and implements well-defined RESTful or GraphQL API endpoints and service integrations within an existing architecture.
  • Applies secure engineering practices (authentication, authorization, secrets management) as defined by team standards.
  • Uses AI-assisted tools to accelerate delivery, applying independent judgment to validate AI-generated code, tests, and documentation.
  • Contributes to automated testing and CI/CD pipelines established by senior engineers; ensures changes are properly tested and do not introduce regressions.
  • Writes clean, readable, maintainable code that meets the team's quality bar before review; considers scalability, performance, and maintainability when designing and building features.

Delivery & Operations
  • Translates well-defined requirements into technical implementation plans for individual features or services.
  • Owns individual features or services through the SDLC, from implementation through deployment and initial support.
  • Uses observability to monitor owned services and troubleshoot within scope; identifies where new telemetry, monitoring, and alerting are needed for owned services and implements them.
  • Participates in incident response and root cause analysis for issues within own area; participates in the on-call rotation, including as secondary/escalation support for Associate Builders.
  • Supports production releases and deployments.
  • Provides estimates for assigned work and delivers against sprint commitments; operates effectively within a delivery pod with minimal guidance, escalating only the most complex items.

Collaboration & Leadership
  • Collaborates with Product Managers, Project Managers, Architects, Data Scientists, DevOps Engineers, Data Engineers, Application Managers, other Software Engineers, Business Analysts, Business Sponsors, and Business Product Owners to deliver features.
  • Conducts peer reviews for engineers within own team.
  • Partners with Associate Builders as capable contributors - pairing, reviewing their work, and helping them take on more complex work; sets a strong example in code quality, testing discipline, and engineering practices.
  • Participates in technical discussions and design reviews for own area; clearly communicates the design and logic of how features work.

About you

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience: 2-5 years of professional experience designing, developing, and supporting software applications.
  • Stack proficiency: Working, hands-on experience across several core stack technologies (.NET/C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, HTML/CSS, SQL/MongoDB), sufficient to contribute across at least two layers of the stack (UI + API, or API + data).
  • AI / LLM engineering: Experience using AI-assisted tools in daily development, with judgment to validate AI-generated code, tests, and docs before merge; hands-on experience integrating LLMs into applications (model/API calls, prompt design, structured outputs), including basic RAG.
  • Testing knowledge: Basic knowledge of API testing and automation tools (Postman, Newman, or Playwright).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Experience designing multi-tier, distributed, or cloud-native applications
  • Experience shipping production LLM/GenAI features, such as RAG pipelines, embeddings/vector search, prompt engineering, or tool-calling/agentic workflows
  • Experience defining evaluations, monitoring, and guardrails for AI features (quality, safety, cost, latency)
  • Experience with MongoDB - design, performance optimization, and indexing
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, service-to-service integrations, or MCP-based solutions
  • Experience with observability tooling such as Application Insights, Log Analytics, Grafana and OpenTelemetry
  • Basic knowledge of performance testing tools and practices
