Broadcast Engineer
Work Location: On-Site - Alexandria, VA | Clearance: Public Trust

ABOUT THE ROLE
Red Carrot is seeking a Broadcast Engineer to support a high-visibility federal communications contract. The Broadcast Studio Engineer is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all broadcast and studio equipment. This role ensures that the technical aspects of broadcasts and recordings run smoothly, adhering to the highest quality standards, and collaborates closely with the production team to deliver high-quality audio and video content.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Operations
  • Set up, operate, and monitor broadcast equipment, including cameras, lighting, audio consoles, and video switchers
  • Manage live broadcasts, ensuring seamless transitions between video sources, graphics, and audio feeds
  • Monitor and adjust audio levels, video signals, and other technical aspects during live and recorded productions
Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting
  • Regularly inspect, maintain, and repair broadcast and studio equipment to ensure optimal performance
  • Troubleshoot technical issues quickly and efficiently during live broadcasts or recordings to minimize disruptions
  • Maintain an organized inventory of all equipment and gear, ensuring everything is properly stored and readily available
Graphic Management
  • Oversee and manage graphic systems for monitors and kiosks, ensuring content is displayed correctly and aligns with broadcast requirements
  • Regularly update and maintain the graphics on monitors and kiosks to ensure they are current and visually appealing
Building and Equipment Management
  • Conduct multiple daily studio walkthroughs and rounds to ensure the overall health and functionality of the broadcast studio, identifying and addressing any issues
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, functioning correctly, and safely stored
Collaboration and Support
  • Work closely with producers, audio techs, and other members of the production team to understand and meet the technical requirements of each project
  • Provide technical support during walk-throughs and live events, offering solutions and adjustments as needed
  • Support the setup of offsite shoots, ensuring all necessary equipment is transported, set up, and functioning correctly
Network Management
  • Oversee and manage the broadcast studio's network infrastructure, ensuring reliable connections for live streaming and remote operations
System and Software Management
  • Manage and configure broadcast automation systems, ensuring they are updated and functioning correctly
  • Ensure all software used in the broadcast studio is up to date and compatible with current systems
Training and Documentation
  • Train staff on the proper use of broadcast equipment and studio protocols
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for all equipment and systems within the studio
  • Stay updated on the latest broadcast technologies and recommend upgrades or improvements to existing systems
Reporting and Compliance
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports on equipment status, broadcast quality, and any technical issues encountered
  • Ensure all broadcast operations comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a broadcast engineering role, with hands-on experience in live broadcast environments
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with broadcast equipment, IP-based systems, network management, and automation software
  • Signal Flow: Knowledgeable in signal flow in a broadcast environment and proficient in patching audio and video connections
  • Other Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure during live events
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Flexibility in working hours is required, including occasional evenings and weekends, based on project needs and the production schedule
  • The position may involve occasional travel for remote broadcasts or equipment servicing
